The Toronto Blue Jays now have all the momentum in the World Series.
The Blue Jays beat the Los Angeles Dodgers 6-1 in Game 5 of the World Series on Wednesday at Dodger Stadium in Los Angeles. Toronto took a 3-2 lead in the best-of-seven championship series with the victory.
Game 5 was the final World Series contest that will take place in Los Angeles this year. Both teams will have an off day Thursday and Game 6 will be on Friday at Rogers Centre in Toronto.
The Blue Jays wasted no time pulling ahead of the Dodgers on Wednesday.
On the first pitch of the game, Toronto left fielder Davis Schneider hit a solo home run to left field. Vladimir Guerrero Jr. hit a solo home run two pitches later to give the Blue Jays a 2-0 lead through the first inning.
Kike Hernandez brought the Dodgers to within one run with a solo home run to left field in the bottom of the third.
That was the only run scored by Los Angeles.
Blue Jays starting pitcher Trey Savage put together a dominant performance. He struck out 12 and allowed one earned run on three hits in seven innings pitched. His 12 fanned batters set a World Series record for the most by a rookie pitcher in a World Series game.
Toronto continued to tack on to its lead as the game progressed. Center fielder Daulton Varsho scored on an RBI sacrifice fly hit by third baseman Ernie Clement that bolstered the Blue Jays' lead to 3-1.
In the top of the seventh, right fielder Addison Barger scored on a wild pitch and designated hitter Bo Bichette hit an RBI single. Toronto led 5-1 after Bichette's single.
Second baseman Isiah Kiner-Falefa hit an RBI single in the top of the eighth for the eventual final of 6-1.
Toronto will have an opportunity to clinch the World Series championship at 8 p.m. ET on Friday at Rogers Centre in Toronto. Kevin Guasman will start for the Dodgers and Yoshinobu Yamamoto will start for the Dodgers.
