The Toronto Blue Jays will look to bounce back after falling behind the Los Angeles Dodgers in the World Series.
The Dodgers beat the Blue Jays 6-5 in 18 innings on Monday in Game 3 of the World Series at Dodger Stadium in Los Angeles.
Both teams had to expend the last corners of their respective bullpens in the 18-inning showdown. Many high-leverage arms will be down for both clubs, and Toronto may have lost one of its best hitters in the marathon.
George Springer exited Game 3 in the top of the seventh inning. He was visibly favoring his right side after taking a swing and fouling off a pitch. He wasn't able to finish the at-bat before exiting the game.
Blue Jays manager John Schneider said before Game 4 of the World Series on Tuesday that Springer was "hour to hour" and the team was yet to make a decision whether he would be in the starting lineup or on the bench.
Toronto released the lineup for Game 4 at 6:05 p.m. ET. Springer, who's typically slotted at designated hitter in the lead-off spot, wasn't in the lineup.
Left fielder Nathan Lukes was in the lead-off spot and Bo Bichette was slotted in at designated hitter hitting third.
The absence of Springer would be a big loss for the Blue Jays in any capacity. In 14 playoff games this year, Springer has scored 13 runs and has hit six doubles and four home runs with nine RBIs. He slashed .246/.323/.561 with an .884 OPS. He hit the go-ahead three-run home run in Toronto's 4-3 win against the Seattle Mariners in Game 7 of the American League Championship Series.
The loss is amplified given who is on the hill for the Dodgers.
Defending National League MVP Shohei Ohtani will start the game at pitcher for Los Angeles. Springer is 7-for-15 against Ohtani in his career, including two home runs.
First pitch in Game 4 of the World Series is scheduled for 8 p.m. ET on Tuesday.
