The World Series will go back to Rogers Centre in Toronto for at least one more game.
The Toronto Blue Jays beat the Los Angeles Dodgers 6-2 in Game 4 of the World Series on Tuesday at Dodger Stadium in Los Angeles. The Blue Jays tied the championship series 2-2 with the victory and guaranteed the series will extend to at least six games.
Tuesday marked the first World Series start in the career of defending National League MVP and Los Angeles superstar Shohei Ohtani, and Toronto was able to effectively navigate the opposing pitching.
The Dodgers took a 1-0 lead in the bottom of the second inning after left fielder Kike Hernandez hit an RBI sacrifice fly that brought home third baseman Max Muncy.
That was the only lead Los Angeles had the entire game.
Blue Jays first baseman Vladimir Guerrero Jr. hit his first home run of the World Series in the top of the third inning. It was a two-run shot that gave Toronto a 2-1 lead.
Guerrero's home run were the final runs scored until the seventh inning.
Ohtani and Blue Jays starting pitcher Shane Bieber were locked into a pitching duel for most of the game. Ohtani went longer, but Bieber was able to navigate the opposing lineup more effectively.
Bieber finished the game with three strikeouts, three walks and one earned run allowed on four hits in 5.1 innings pitched.
In the top of the seventh inning, center fielder Daulton Varsho hit a lead-off single and third baseman Ernie Clement hit a double that gave Toronto two runners in scoring position with no outs.
Those two hits marked the end of the day for Ohtani. He fanned six batters, walked a batter and allowed four earned runs on six hits (one homer) in six innings pitched.
The last two runs charged to Ohtani were courtesy of an RBI single hit by shortstop Andres Gimenez and an RBI groundout hit by pinch-hitter Ty France. Those two plays resulted in a 4-1 lead for Toronto.
The Blue Jays added another pair of runs in the top of the seventh.
Designated hitter Bo Bichette and right fielder Addison Barger hit respective RBI singles to mark the end of the scoring spree. Toronto scored four runs in the inning and had a 6-1 lead going into the bottom of the seventh.
Dodgers second baseman Tommy Edman brought home right fielder Teoscar Hernandez on a groundout, which resulted in the eventual final of 6-2.
The Blue Jays and Los Angeles will play one final game at Dodger Stadium at 8 p.m. ET on Wednesday. Trey Yesavage will start for Toronto and Blake Snell will start for the Dodgers.
