The 2025 season will come down to one game.
The Toronto Blue Jays fell to the Los Angeles Dodgers 3-1 in Game 6 of the World Series on Friday at Rogers Centre in Toronto. The loss tied the World Series 3-3, forcing a Game 7.
For almost the entire series, the beginning stages of the game have been low scoring and the winner has often been the club that's gotten to the opposing bullpen first.
That wasn't the case in Game 6.
As has been the case several times in the World Series, both starting pitchers had solid overall showings.
Toronto starting pitcher Kevin Gausman posted a quality start. He struck out eight, walked two (one intentionally) and allowed three earned runs on as many hits in six innings pitched.
Los Angeles starter Yoshinobu Yamamoto also posted a quality start. He fanned six, walked one and allowed one earned run on five hits in six innings pitched.
Every single run scored in the game came against a starting pitcher and came in one inning.
In the top of the third, Dodgers catcher Will Smith hit an RBI double to put Los Angeles in front 1-0.
Mookie Betts brought home Smith and designated hitter Shohei Ohtani with a two-RBI single that extended Los Angeles' lead to 3-0 through the top of the third.
In the bottom of the third, Toronto designated hitter George Springer, who missed the last two games with a side injury, hit an RBI single that resulted in the eventual final of 3-1.
Both teams had opportunities to add more runs to the board in the rest of the game, but were stonewalled by each respective bullpen.
The Blue Jays had one chance to avoid a Game 7 in the bottom of the ninth. Toronto catcher Alejandro Kirk was hit by a pitch and replaced with pinch-runner Myles Straw, who was moved to third after right fielder Addison Barger hit a ground-rule double. The Blue Jays had runners at second and third with no outs after the hit.
Tyler Glasnow, who was featured on the Dodgers' starting rotation during the regular season, entered the game to get his team out of the jam.
Glasgow induced a popout from Toronto third baseman Ernie Clement. Shortstop Andres Gimenez lined out to Los Angeles third baseman Kike Hernandez, who delivered an immediate throw to second baseman Miguel Rojas.
Rojas tagged out Barger at second to complete the inning-ending double play.
The World Series champions will be determined at 8 p.m. ET on Saturday at Rogers Centre in Toronto. Max Scherzer will start for the Blue Jays. The Dodgers' starting pitcher is still to-be-determined, but Glasnow (who threw three pitches) and Ohtani will both be available.
