The Cleveland Guardians reworked this star's contract to keep him as a cornerstone of the team for a long time.

The Cleveland Guardians were able to lock up the face of their franchise for the long haul, reworking a deal to add more years to their superstar’s contract. They were intent on keeping their seven-time All-Star, who also wanted to remain with the Guardians for his entire career. That was all validated by a massive extension on Saturday when Cleveland agreed to terms with third baseman Jose Ramirez to keep him with the team through 2032, according to ESPN’s sources. While Ramirez was signed through 2028, the team was able to add four more years to extend him on a seven-year, $175 million deal.

Since debuting in 2013, Ramirez has been the best superstar in Cleveland and will look to stay there with a deal that also includes a no-trade clause, in addition to bonuses for winning or finishing in the top five of MVP voting – which he’s done six times in his career. He is coming off a 2025 campaign where he slashed .283/.360/.503 with 30 homers and an OPS of .863, as well as a career-high 44 stolen bases. He was a Gold Glove finalist at the hot corner, and for the numbers he’s producing, it’s arguably a bargain for the Guardians to keep their best player home.

Here is the full story from Guardians Roundtable writer on the full details of Ramirez’s extension and what it signals for Cleveland.

It’s always great to lock up a star long-term who has a strong desire to stay there and call the club his home, especially one with the fielding prowess at third base and power at the plate. He will now try to continue to win a World Series with the Guardians, helping them reach the postseason seven times, including the last two seasons.
