After splitting the first two games of their weekend series against the Milwaukee Brewers, the Colorado Rockies probably were hoping Sunday's afternoon finale could become a walk in the park.

Any walking the Rockies' hitters might do simply involves walking to the batter's box, facing a few 100-mph pitches, striking out, and going right back to the dugout. Yes, it might be one of those days at American Family Field.

Brewers ace starter Jacob Misiorowski takes the mound in the hopes of bringing his team a series victory. How has Misiorowski been doing this season? Not too bad. According to his MLB statistics profile, "The Miz" has a 10-4 overall record, He has a nice, tidy 1.57 ERA and has appeared in 19 games for Milwaukee this season.

All 19 appearances have been starts for Brewers manager Pat Murphy. Misiorowski, in 115 innings pitched, has 173 strikeouts and a really impressive 0.77 WHIP.

With those numbers and his strong ability to blow hitters away with his incredible fastball, it is not surprising that Misiorowski is mentioned among strong candidates to win the National League Cy Young Award this season.

For the Rockies to have any real chance of throwing Misiorowski off of his stride on Sunday, they need to almost ambush him early and often. That, in itself, is a bigger goal than some Rockies fans might want to believe.

Want some more Misiorowski statistics? MLB.com reporter David Adler pointed some other numbers out in a story about the Brewers' star pitcher.

"He's inducing the highest whiff rate, 38%, of any starter," Adler wrote. "He has the highest strikeout rate, 39%. He leads the Majors with 173 total K's."

Hitters are just not catching up to Misiorowski's four-seam fastball at all this season. The whiff rate for Misiorowski this season sits at 42%, meaning that opposing hitters are swinging and missing a lot of the time.

The Sunday afternoon game is going to be a big, big test for Colorado. Yes, there probably will be a handful of strikeouts. But the bigger question is this: Could Misiorowski be so dominant against the Rockies that he ends up having one of his best starts this season?

That might end up happening at American Family Field. Colorado can ill afford to make errors in the field or have unfocused at-bats against Misiorowski. 

Kyle Freeland gets the start for Rockies manager Warren Schaeffer. Freeland is on the opposite end of the scale from Misiorowski.

He is 2-9 this season with a 7.28 ERA. Freeland has struck out 83 batters, walked 20, and currently owns a 1.56 WHIP. That's just a tick under an .80 difference between his WHIP numbers and Misiorowski's numbers in that category.

One player on the Rockies who has a good chance of at least getting a hit off of Misiorowski is Jake McCarthy. McCarthy's name is still being tossed around in trade chatter as the MLB Trade Deadline on Aug. 3 grows closer.

First pitch on Sunday is scheduled for 12:10 p.m. MT between Colorado and Milwaukee. After this game, the Rockies have a rare Monday off before opening a short two-game series against the San Diego Padres at Petco Park.
