When an MLB team has its final home series of a regular season, it means either of two things. One, a team is going to see its season come to an end soon, or two, the postseason is just around the corner.

For the Colorado Rockies, the offseason will start after Sunday's finale on the road. Then, the Arizona Diamondbacks are in crunch time to earn a National League postseason position.

The D-backs are coming into Coors Field with a determined look, knowing that adding victories to their overall record means a lot. The Rockies are just looking to do whatever they can to avoid 100 losses for another season.

Rockies fans have continued to show up and support their team. The season record is not great, of course, yet there have been signs of growth in the 2026 season. As has been pointed out before, this season's squad won 10-plus games more than the 2025 team.

Manager Warren Schaeffer has been diligent in getting his own ideas and concepts spread throughout the ballclub. Don't think that Schaeffer hasn't been paying attention at all. Cameras usually find him a lot of times on the dugout steps, looking out at the field.

Attention is being paid to who is playing well and who probably will not come back next season. Longtime Rockies starting pitcher Kyle Freeland might not be in the plans for the 2027 MLB season, so his Tuesday night start could put the wraps on his time with the Rockies.

Here are the probable starters for the Rockies-Diamondbacks series at Coors Field.

Tuesday, Sept. 22: LHP Kyle Freeland (4-10, 6.38 ERA) vs. RHP Michael Soroka (8-5, 3.45)

For Kyle Freeland, this has not been a stellar season. He wants to finish this season on a strong, upbeat note. He'll look to do so against one of Arizona's top starters in Michael Soroka.

Wednesday, Sept. 23: RHP Mason Adams (0-1, 5.09) vs. RHP Merrill Kelly (9-14, 5.00)

It will be interesting to see how long Mason Adams goes in this start. Warren Schaeffer probably hopes that he can get some length out of Adams, but that has been in short supply all season long with Rockies starters. Merrill Kelly is one whale of a pitcher whose record this season reflects his struggles. Don't be surprised if Kelly wins this one, though.

Thursday, Sept. 24: TBD vs. LHP Eduardo Rodriguez (15-7, 2.89)

Well, we all will have to see how Schaeffer plays his pitching lineup going into the finale. Eduardo Rodriguez has been excellent for D-backs manager Torey Lovullo and, well, this home final game just might go Rodriguez's way, too.

Tuesday and Wednesday night's games are scheduled to start at 6:40 p.m. MT. Thursday's home finale has a 1:10 p.m. MT.
