Gabriel Hughes' less-than-stellar start put Colorado Rockies behind early and the Detroit Tigers took advantage of it.

On Sunday, Gabriel Hughes had the assignment to help put the Colorado Rockies in position to avoid a sweep at the hands of the Detroit Tigers.

Hughes failed in his assignment, giving up five earned runs in two innings as the Tigers ended up winning 8-1. Hughes gave up five hits along with those five runs, walked two, struck out two, and allowed a home run.

In comparison, Tigers starting pitcher Jackson Jobe picked up the victory. Jobe worked 6.1 innings for Tigers manager A.J. Hinch. He gave up three hits, one earned run, walked one, struck out eight, and gave up Colorado's lone run on a home run.

Hao-Yu Lee's sacrifice fly and Greene's RBI single added two more runs to the Tigers' side of the scoreboard. Spencer Torkelson put the winning touch on this game with his 23rd home run this season. It was a solo shot and closed out the scoring on Sunday.

Colorado comes back to Coors Field

The Rockies are going to open a four-game series against the San Diego Padres on Monday, then the Seattle Mariners come in for a weekend series at Coors Field. Colorado wraps up its 2026 MLB home schedule with a three-game series against the Arizona Diamondbacks.

All three of those teams are in some way, shape, or form in the postseason race at this time. They are going to be looking for wins against a team that's looking to finish strong. Can Colorado take advantage of being at home and get a few wins? That'll be worth keeping an eye on, Rockies fans.
