Steve Kerr agreed to a new contract to return as the Warriors head coach.

At long last, there is finally a decision. Steve Kerr will be returning to the Golden State Warriors.

As first reported by ESPN's Shams Charania, Anthony Slater, and Ramona Shelburne, Kerr has agreed to a new two-year contract with the Warriors that will see him reassume his position as head coach. The deal will reportedly keep Kerr as the highest-paid coach in the NBA after he held that title last season with his $17.5 million salary.

It's been over three weeks of conversations between the two sides that have led to a flurry of reporting and rumors about the two parties, but less than 24 hours before the NBA draft lottery is set to take place and really get the offseason kicking off, the Warriors will finally have their head coach back in place.

It was reported earlier this week that the Warriors wanted to get a deal done with Kerr before the draft lottery took place, but it seems they really wanted to iron out all of the details and ended up with a buzzer-beating agreement.

Kerr has been the head coach since 2014, winning four NBA championships and becoming one of the most accomplished coaches of all time in his 12 years in Golden State. Though the last few years haven't had quite the level of success compared to years prior, there's no doubt that Kerr has already cemented himself as a legendary coach for the franchise.

With this two-year deal, something the Warriors were reportedly pushing for to prevent a 'Last Dance' scenario in the 2026-27 season, Kerr is set to coach at least his 13th and 14th seasons for the Warriors, all of them alongside Steph Curry and Draymond Green.

What Does This Mean For The Warriors' Offseason?

With the biggest blockade finally out of the way, things can start moving along for the Dubs' offseason. First and foremost, the draft lottery on Sunday afternoon will be a big factor in how the front office approaches the rest of the summer.

The Warriors currently have a 9.4% chance to jump into the top 4, and would otherwise likely stay at pick 11 with a slight chance to drop to the 12th spot. In any case, a lottery pick in this year's draft — a class that's been hyped up to be one of the better ones in recent memory — can be potentially franchise-altering.

Kerr, the Warriors' scouting department, and general manager Mike Dunleavy Jr. can now make sure they'll be on the same page when evaluating these prospects in the pre-draft processes ahead of the NBA Draft in June. There are a lot of ways the Warriors could go in the draft, between positions, skill set, and NBA readiness, especially if they end up with pick 11 or 12, so having Kerr officially in place will be key to ensuring the eventual selection is a go from each side.

Beyond the draft, Kerr's return also has major implications for how players may perceive the team. In particular, this might have the most effect on Green, who has a $27 million player option that he had been previously uncertain about. With his coach back in the fray, he'll likely end up returning either by accepting the player option or by declining it to restructure his contract for a more sensible amount and length.

There will be many other decisions to make in the coming weeks and months before the season begins anew in the fall, but for now, it's a sigh of relief to know the Warriors can put the biggest decision in the rearview mirror.
