As it has been for a majority of the offseason since the Warriors' season ended three weeks ago, the Golden State Warriors and Steve Kerr continue to be entrenched in discussions regarding Kerr's future as head coach.
The two sides have reportedly been in discussions for over a week now, but nothing concrete has emerged as of late. In fact, meetings were reported to have resumed on Monday, but it doesn't seem like anything was officially decided.
As the NBA draft lottery approaches and the offseason begins to kick into full swing, with decisions on the horizon, something needs to be set in stone soon so the Warriors don't fall behind on their offseason plans.
Warriors Reportedly Not Looking For Kerr Replacements
On Monday, though nobody had new information about a decision from Kerr or the Warriors' front office, Brett Siegel did note in a ClutchPoints article a new report from the organization's side of things.
"Sources say the Warriors have not been in contact with any potential coaching prospects, nor does the organization have a list together of possible replacements for Kerr. Although Kerr has been on the fence about his future during the second half of the 2025-26 season, especially during the final weeks and after the team's play-in loss, (owner Joe) Lacob, (general manager Mike) Dunleavy, and the Warriors' leadership are on the same page of wanting him back on the sidelines."
It's an interesting thing to consider, as there had previously been many reports about potential options that the Warriors were considering, including Mike Brown, Andre Iguodala, and most prominently, Florida head coach Todd Golden.
With this, it seems like the Warriors are banking on the fact that Kerr will eventually return. In the event that Kerr ends up retiring or otherwise not returning to Golden State, having to completely start up a coaching search from scratch would seriously throw the Warriors and their offseason for a loop.
On the other side, Siegel said the same of Kerr.
"Conversely, Kerr has not actively been seeking other opportunities outside of the Warriors, sources said. He is committed to being on the same page as Lacob and Dunleavy to ensure the success of the Warriors, whether that be with or without him. No outside factor or potential job in media has been discussed during these meetings."
This report is perhaps more notable to another organization: ESPN. Recent reports indicated that the television network was trying to get Kerr to return to broadcasting, but if he's committed to first ensuring the success of the Warriors and hasn't yet considered anything about ESPN or other jobs, it may not be as enticing an offer for Kerr as they might believe.
Ultimately, all of these reports are just that: new tidbits of information that may or may not end up leading to a real decision. For now, all we can do is wait for the two parties to continue discussing things until they finally come to a conclusion, one way or another.
