The Florida Gators, under the guidance of newly-hired head coach Jon Sumrall, have managed to put together an incredible 2027 recruiting class this offseason.

Since arriving to the program back in December of 2025, Sumrall completely flipped the future outlook of the Gators through his efforts in the transfer portal and on the recruiting trail. But the former Tulane Green Waves head coach is showing no signs of stopping in the near future.

According to Rivals’ Seth Wiltfong, 2027 five-star defensive tackle and Texas Tech commit Jalen Brewster is set to take an official visit to Gainesville on Jun 13.

Brewster, as one of the best prospects in the 2027 recruiting class, has managed to rise up the rankings throughout his time at Cedar Hill High School. Currently, the highly-regarded defender is the No. 1 prospect in the state of Texas, as well as the No. 1 prospect in the entire nation, per 247Sports’ Composite.

Standing at a stout 6-foot-3, 302 lbs., Brewster is one of the most explosive defensive linemen off the line of scrimmage, as his blend of strength and agility will allow him to be a force at the college level. While the rising star has dominated on the defensive side of the ball during his time with the Longhorns, Brewster was also featured as a running back in 2025, tallying 142 rushing yards and three touchdowns on the ground.

However, despite his commitment to the Red Raiders back in October of 2025, Sumrall and the Gators remain in the conversation for Brewster this summer. The incredible defensive playmaker received his offer from Florida while former head coach Billy Napier was at the helm, but the Gators’ newest coaching staff was able to host Brewster for multiple unofficial visits this offseason. Now, following his recent visits to Indiana, LSU, and Miami, the top prospect in the 2027 class will be back in Gainesville this month.

If Sumrall is able to secure a commitment from Brewster, the Gators’ upcoming recruiting class could become one of the best in recent memory. Florida’s 2027 class features a total of 23 commits, with five-star offensive tackle Maxwell Hiller leading the charge. In addition to Hiller, the Gators also possess 15 four-star commits, including four-star quarterback Davin Davidson.
