Malachi Marshall is the newest member of the Seminoles, who's earning high praise from one scout after his commitment.

Florida State hosted intriguing junior college talent Malachi Marshall during Martin Luther King Jr. weekend. The Seminoles have now secured their first non-portal commitment for this recruiting cycle.

Marshall chose FSU and shut his recruitment down on Sunday, with Noles247 confirming his decision on Sunday evening.

The Iowa Western Community College dual-threat told Chris Nee of 247 that he'd be a "smooth" fit for FSU.

"We run the same offense at my school right now," Marshall said to Nee.

Another words, the Gus Malzahn RPO (run pass option) scheme was what Marshall operated in.

One scout is already high on Marshall's arrival: Brendan Sonnone of 247Sports.

"He's a bit of a gunslinger, a thin one who's still developing. If this was a Spaghetti Western, Malachi Marshall would be a young, hotshot, quick-drawer with something to prove. Maybe he'd be named 'Razor' for his frame and his precision as a passer?" Sonnone asked. "But what I do know is that he'll bring a spark to FSU's quarterback room, and should create some needed competition among the underclassmen in the room."

Sonnone adds how Marshall: "Whips the ball with a high motion that results in consistent zip/velocity on intermediate throws across the field. Can capably push ball vertically even off-platform, and does a nice job putting ball into tight window with quick-torque action on RPO."

He includes that the incoming JUCO talent is a highly effective passer on the run and is also "fearless" from a physical perspective.

There will be concerns over his frame, as he stands at just 6-foot-2, 170-pounds entering Tallahassee. He also noticeably threw way too much zip on shorter throws and must become patient with his own release.

"With a quick release, he COULD unlock every passing concept Malzahn would want to accomplish if he had a strong running game from the backs to complement this style of quarterback," Sonnone added.

He first went to Stony Brook out of the Football Championship Subdivision before heading to the JUCO level. Marshall completed only 49.1% of his throws during his lone FCS season.

But his passing exploded at the JC ranks -- tossing 33 touchdowns with eight interceptions. And he completed 62% of his passes for the Reivers.

Marshall commits during the same weekend FSU hosted Oregon commit Cameron Pritchett. Marshall also enters the picture after Florida State reportedly showed interest in Texas Southern QB KJ Cooper in the portal
