LSU Tigers head coach Lane Kiffin hinted at some changes coming to the offensive line, perhaps this week against the Texas A&M Aggies.
The LSU Tigers have a few things to figure out following their loss to the Ole Miss Rebels, but possibly the largest is across the offensive line, and it sounds like they will at least be trying to address it this week.
Rebels defensive tackle Will Echoles put a highlight on the interior while his teammates were able to penetrate consistently on the right side.
Sam Leavitt has been facing constant pressure, and the run game hasn't gotten much push. Dilin Jones has been good enough to make up for it, and Leavitt has great escapability, but life would be much easier for all involved if the offensive line found some success.
When speaking to the media on Sunday, Tigers head coach Lane Kiffin had this to say about the line, being sure not to give away too much, "We're gonna look at some different things this week up front, because we need to play better and more consistently up there"
Kiffin gave a little bit more during the Monday press conference, saying that he's been happy with the run game, but pass protection has seen too many breakdowns.
Jordan Seaton has had a nice start, but even he has allowed four pressures through three games, per PFF. Bo Borderlon has allowed nine; Weston Davis and Aliou Bah have allowed six. Braelin Moore has been the best so far with just one.
The two places where LSU most needs to try things out are at left guard and right tackle.
Bordelon has been a great story of someone who has stayed with the Tigers despite not really seeing the field until now in his redshirt senior season. The matchup against Echoles and that Ole Miss defensive line has to strike some worry, though, as they progress into the defensive line. Echoles is better than most defensive players, but the SEC has athletes that might just be too much to keep up with.
Ja'Quan Sprinkle is the only other guard to see the field there, though he allowed one pressure in four pass-blocking snaps against the Clemson Tigers. He transferred over from North Carolina, where he performed well.
Davis struggled last year, but it was written off as someone who just wasn't ready but had flashes. Well, it would appear as though he's still not ready. Sean Thompkins, a Baylor Bears transfer, is next in line for snaps there. He got a few starts last year and was ok outside of a game where he allowed seven pressures against the Utah Utes.
The offensive line just needs to be better from here on out if LSU wants to compete in the SEC.
