Ohio State remained the No. 1 team in the country after week one, and they put it all on the line this weekend against Texas.
After a chaotic first week of college football, the Ohio State Buckeyes remained the No. 1 team in the country according to the Associated Press.
There were really two shocking games in week one, and the first one, UMASS and Rutgers, had really nothing to do with the Top-25, but the second one shook up the bottom of the Top-25.
Michigan's insane result against Western Michigan dropped from No. 16 all the way outside of the top-25 down to spot No. 28.
Other than that, it was pretty much the status quo across the board, and for the Buckeyes, that means keeping hold of the top spot. That top ranking gets put squarely on the line this weekend against the No. 4 Texas Longhorns, who climbed one spot in the rankings.
This upcoming matchup is one of the most highly anticipated games of the entire season. It is a critically important football game for both teams because it determines their sense of urgency for the rest of the year.
Each program got the short end of the schedule lottery, and both have incredibly challenging seasons ahead of them. A win on Saturday would ot only set the winner up with an inside track as the No. 1 seed, but it would also buy them some more room for error as the season continues.
The Buckeyes come into tonight's game with a recent 2-0 lead over the Longhorns in two true classic games. The 2025 College Football Playoff Game was an absolute classic between two incredible teams, while last year's week one matchup was between two teams that were very unsure of themselves.
This year's game is a week-two matchup between two of the best rosters in the country. These two teams are absolutely loaded with talent on both sides of the ball.
There are superstar wide receivers, superstar pass rushers, great quarterbacks, great linemen, two great coaches, and two fanbases that are developing quite the rivalry.
After the Texas game, Ohio State comes back home for a game with the Kent State Golden Flashes in a battle that they should handle easily. The Big Ten play gets going with a tough matchup against the Illinois Illini before a trip to Iowa for a road game against the Hawkeyes.
Ohio State feels like it needs a win down in Austin this weekend. It will solidify them as the No. 1 team in the country and put them in the driver's seat for a really challenging rest of the season.
