Just as head coach Fran Brown says his roster spot wasn't secure for 2026, Toosii has made that move on social media.

Alright, let's follow the story from the top.

In early December of 2025, popular rapper Toosii, actual name Nau'jour Grainger, posted on Instagram that he was going to play college football at Syracuse University in 2026.

A former high school football player who was born and raised in Syracuse, Grainger is now 26 years old. Playing college football was clearly a dream for him and it was apparent that SU was going to allow him to make it a reality. A wide receiver, Grainger also revealed on social media that he had an offer from Sacramento State.

Then, on Wednesday, head coach Fran Brown revealed that Grainger's roster status for 2026 was up in the air. Brown made it sound like he had planned to give Grainger a chance to walk-on, but with so many new additions now via the transfer portal, Brown said he would have to evaluate the situation. He also said that Grainger was still deciding what he wanted to do.

Well, after those comments were made public, Grainger deleted his Syracuse commitment post on Instagram. That doesn't officially mean he won't come to Syracuse, but it certainly doesn't bode well for his chances.

About the outlook for 2026

Syracuse lost its final eight games in 2025 to finish 3-9 on the campaign, but the Orange are looking up heading into 2026. Quarterback Steve Angeli, who missed each of those eight games with a torn Achilles, will be back healthy - and he has depth behind him in the form of quarterbacks Amari Odom (Kennesaw State) and Danny Lauter (Georgetown).

Furthermore, new defensive coordinator Vince Kehres built a top-ranked defense at Toledo and will have the opportunity to do that in Central New York as well.

Also on campus

The Syracuse University men's basketball team dropped a 76-74 contest against Virginia Tech on Wednesday night at the JMA Wireless Dome. The Orange are now 12-7 overall and 3-3 in the ACC. They'll be home again on Saturday afternoon (2 p.m. ET) against Miami.
