The Syracuse University football program secured another transfer on Monday morning, getting Tunmise Adeleye out of the portal.
On3 had the report on social media. Adeleye most recently played at UNLV.
We had heard that the Orange were hosting Adeleye on a visit on Jan. 4.
The perfect encapsulation of the transfer portal era, Adeleye has already played four seasons at four different schools. He began at Texas A&M before going to Michigan State, Texas State and then UNLV. He will have one year of eligibility left. He is a former Top-100 recruit who had 49 tackles and six sacks this past season.
The Orange certainly have a few solid reasons for optimism when pitching transfers on Central New York.
1) With Steve Angeli back, this team should be better than 3-9. The Orange were 3-1 when Angeli was healthy in 2025. Then, he suffered a season-ending injury and they went 0-8 over the final 2.5 months. The game is still based around the quarterback, and the Orange have a good one returning. Oh yeah, they also signed Amari Odom out of the portal the other day as well.
2) The ACC provides an opportunity to get to the College Football Playoff. While NIL is all the rage, most players still want to win. If Syracuse is able to perform in the ACC, there's a built-in path to the playoff, which is the goal. Take a look at Miami, who will play for the College Football Playoff title against Indiana.
3) Syracuse will have playing time opportunities, which can lead to NFL opportunities. As a senior, Adeleye has to also be looking out for his future interests. The Orange can get him on the field at a higher level of competition, which will showcase him for NFL teams.
4) Vince Kehres. The Orange just hired the defensive coordinator who helped architect Toledo's top-ranked defense. If Adeleye wants to see the best version of himself in 2026, perhaps Kehres is the guy to help unlock it.
