Dream fulfilled! Romello Height's NFL journey begins with the 49ers, capping a stellar Texas Tech career.
Texas Tech's defensive line wreaked havoc on opposing offenses, and that was largely due to the contruction by two standout transfers.
The first is David Bailey, who was one of the first players taken in the 2026 NFL Draft at No. 2 overall to the Jets.
The second is Romello Height, who now has a new home of his own in the professional ranks.
Former Red Raiders EDGE Height has been drafted by the 49ers with a pick in Round 3.
“It’s crazy, I had a dream about it. It wasn’t exactly the Niners, but it was the Niners colors. Man, look at God," said Height via 95.7 The Game.
The one-year transfer starter from Georgia Tech helped turn Texas Tech into a lethal force throughout their Big 12 Championship season and berth into the program's first CFP.
The All-Big 12 First Team selection recorded 38 total tackles, with 11 resulting in a loss of 71 yards, 9.5 sacks for 65 yards and two forced fumbles with one recovery.
While his presence will be missed on the defensive front, the former Red Raiders standout looks primed to bring his talents to the next level.
According to reports from throughout the pre-draft process, Height had done top-30 visits with seven prospective NFL squads: the 49ers, Bengals, Colts, Commanders, Cowboys, Eagles and Patriots.
Height was a projected late-Day 1 or Day 2 pick entering the NFL Draft process and seemed to solidify his stock following a stop at the NFL Scouting Combine in Indianapolis this spring.
During the pre-draft showcase, he put up a 4.64 40-yard dash time and a 39-inch vertical jump to showcase his athletic edge.
Most mock drafts slide Height somewhere within Round 3 of the draft in the latest projections. But with so much interest swirling around the league, it was possible he could sneak his way higher in the order, especially with the run of edge rushers like Bailey at the top.
For those unfamiliar, a top-30 visit is an official visit for a prospect to one of the 32 teams in the NFL and, as the name suggests, each team is limited to only 30 visits for their most serious of potential draftees.
For these teams to use a valuable top-30 slot on Height, it shows the true interest that lies in adding him to their roster.
And that interest ends with San Francisco picking up the high-motor defensive end who looks to carry production against quality competition into his rookie season in the NFL.
