Local two-way standout Zy Tassin names the Knights his top choice, potentially bringing elite athleticism and defensive depth to a surging 2027 recruiting class in Orlando.
The UCF Knights' 2027 recruiting class is taking form after several commitments and could get stronger, as 2027 three-star safety Zy Tassin confirmed the school as a frontrunner in his recruitment.
"UCF is my top school for sure," Tassin told UCFSports' Brandon Helwig. "It's definitely a place I can call home."
Tassin is a local recruit attending Crestview High School in Crestview, Florida. He is a two-way athlete for the Bulldogs, also serving as the quarterback.
The 6-foot-2 athlete completed 50-for-105 passes for 724 yards, six touchdowns and two interceptions. Tassin added 590 rushing yards and 11 touchdowns to his totals on 89 carries.
He gets little rest as a two-way player, but his performance doesn't slip on defense. Tassin recorded 21 tackles (10 solo), three TFL, two interceptions and two fumble recoveries.
UCF hosted the local recruit this past weekend and set a good first impression. The three-star athlete would become the Knights' seventh commit from his class.
He'd join Kaneilius Purdy, Connail Jackson, Noah Robinson, Kash Kolbow, Jamal Robinson Jr. and Tanner Ehmen. Tassin would also become the sixth in-state recruit, as Ehmen is from Alabaster, Alabama.
Coach Scott Frost has highlighted the importance of finding recruits within the state. He said UCF sells itself because of proximity to home for recruits and the chance to play Power Four football.
"I think about half our kids are from Florida," Frost said on Dec. 3, 2025. "I'm kind of surprised it's not a little more than that, but we're going to look under every rock and try to find the guys that fit us and I feel really good about the guys we need to get."
A commitment from Tassin would strengthen the Knights' defensive back room. The position will undergo significant losses after next season because most of the group are seniors.
Adding much-needed depth to that position is paramount for UCF to maintain its dominance as a top-passing defense in the Big 12. The team also hired David Overstreet II as the new defensive backs coach, and his NFL coaching experience is valuable.
Kolbow is the other defensive back in the 2027 recruiting class, and adding Tassin to that list would benefit the Knights. Frost has emphasized building around young, talented players for the future.
It will most likely be a while before Tassin commits to a school. However, it's a reassuring sign that UCF is a frontrunner for a local recruit a few hours away from campus.
