The guard had 24 points as the Huskies topped Villanova on Saturday.

Brady Farkas on the historic performance from Solo Ball on Saturday.

The University of Connecticut men's basketball team moved to 19-1 overall on Saturday with a 75-67 overtime win over Villanova in Hartford, Conn. In addition to being 19-1, the Huskies are now 9-0 inside Big East play. They are ranked No. 2 nationally and are seeking their third national championship in four years.

Villanova is now 15-5 and 6-3 inside league play.

Guard Solo Ball helped carry the Huskies offensively, scoring a game-high 24 points on 7-of-17 shooting. He was also 5-of-12 from three-point range and 7-of-7 at the foul line, and he pulled down five rebounds. In addition to his work, Alex Karaban had 17 points and both Silas Demary Jr. and Tarris Reed Jr. had 10.

For Ball, his performance made program history not seen in the last 15 years, according to Katie Sharp:

Solo Ball is the only UConn player in the last 15 seasons to have a game with:

38+ Minutes Played

24+ Points

3+ Assists

0 Turnovers

0 Missed FT

Considering the caliber of player that has played for the Huskies in the last 15 years, that's quite the accomplishment.

The Solo Ball file

A junior from Virginia, Ball is now averaging 14.6 ppg and 3.7 rebounds. Both of these are modest improvements from last season's 14.4 and 3.6 rebounds. He is shooting nearly 43 percent from the floor overall.

This 24 points represents his most in a game this season, surpassing the 23 he had against Columbia on Nov. 10.

He hadn't had more than 10 since Jan. 4, so perhaps this offensive output will get him going again.

Other news and notes

--Demary recorded his 1,000th career point in the victory. A junior transfer from Georgia, he's been one of the most impactful transfers in the country.

--UConn freshman Braylon Mullins left the game in the second half after taking an elbow to the forehead. After the game, head coach Dan Hurley said that he is entering the concussion protocol. It's unclear if he'll be able to play on Tuesday as the Huskies host Providence. UConn beat the Friars 103-98 in overtime earlier this season.

Also on campus

--The UConn women, playing on Saturday instead of Sunday because of the looming snowstorm, trounced Seton Hall by 36 points. The No. 1 Huskies are still unbeaten on the season. Sarah Strong led the way with 18 points while Azzi Fudd had 16. Read that recap here.

--UConn standout wide receiver Skyler Bell is preparing to play in the Shrine Bowl on Jan. 27. Bell was the first-ever AP First-Team All-American in school history in 2025. He helped the Huskies go 9-4 and earn an appearance in the Fenway Bowl.
