The Washington Huskies men's basketball team will start the 2025-26 regular season against Alaska Airlines Arena at 8 p.m. PT in Seattle.
The Huskies will have an almost completely new roster this season. Thirteen players on the roster will be new to the program, and there's expectations from within the program and outside of it the team will exceed its results from the previous season.
Washington finished last in the 18-team Big Ten conference in its first year under head coach Danny Sprinkle last year and missed out on the postseason conference tournament.
The Huskies received seven votes on the first Associated Press (AP) Top 25 poll of the year that released. And according to at least one successful coach, Washington will "win and win soon."
Washington helped run the Washington Interscholastic Basketball Coaches Association (WIBCA) clinic. Another coach that competed in that clinic was Tom Crean, who had kind words for the Huskies staff in a post on "X."
"Just leaving Seattle after watching the (Washington men's basketball team) prepare, practice and run their clinic with WIBCA and speaking at it. I knew I'd be impressed with (Sprinkle) and the entire staff but I was far more inspired with the entire operation. This program will win and soon. Developers!
Sprinkle responded to the compliment in his own post on "X."
"Appreciate you (Crean)! You got a friend for life and I learned so much in the past 36 hours with you! Thank you for your time and sharing wisdom with our program and all the coaches who attended the Clinic!"
Crean was a head coach from 1999-2022 with Marquette, Indiana and Georgia. He led Marquette to a Final Four appearance in 2003 and he led Indiana to three Sweet 16 appearances in 2012-13 and '16.
Sprinkle coached Montana State and Utah State before taking the job with the Huskies. He led Montana State to two straight NCAA Tournament appearances from 2022-23 and Utah State to an NCAA Tournament berth in 2024.
