The Washington Huskies football team is just under 24 hours away from a Los Angeles Bowl showdown against the Boise State Broncos.
The Huskies will face their Mountain West foes at 5 p.m. PT on Dec. 13 at SoFi Stadium in Inglewood, Calif.
In the lead up to Washington's bowl game, which will be the last L.A. Bowl in history, there were many questions about whether head coach Jedd Fisch would coach the program beyond it.
The Michigan Wolverines fired head coach Sherrone Moore with cause, opening up one of the most prolific jobs in the country.
Fisch, who also was mentioned as a potential candidate earlier this season for the then-vacant Florida Gators head coaching job, was immediately mentioned as a top candidate for the Michigan job.
According to a report from Emerald City Spectrum's Aaron Coe, Fisch was asked about the rumors during a news conference Friday.
Fisch said he "expects to be" with the Huskies in 2026.
Fisch's comments weren't a flat denial of interest or consideration in regards to the Wolverines' vacancy but they fall in line with previous comments made when Fisch was asked about the Florida job earlier this season.
Saturday's bowl game will wrap up Fisch's second year with Washington. A win would give the Huskies a 9-4 record on the season, a three-win improvement from Fisch's first year at the helm in 2024.
Fisch has been a head coach for five consecutive seasons. He spent the first three years with the Arizona Wildcats from 2021-23 before taking the role with Washington, which was vacated when Kalen DeBoer took the head coach job at Alabama. DeBoer has also been mentioned as a potential candidate for the Michigan job.
Fisch is in the second year of a seven-year contract worth $7.75 million annually. UW is owed a $10 million buyout if he's hired elsewhere before Jan. 9, 2026.
Fisch spent two seasons on Michigan's coaching staff from 2015-16. While there, Fisch was the quarterbacks and wide receivers coach and the passing game coordinator.
The Wolverines and the Huskies have two of the best recruiting classes in the country, according to 247Sports. Michigan's 2026 recruiting class ranks 11th in the country and Washington's '26 class ranks 12th. It's the highest a Huskies' recruiting class has been ranked in program history. Michigan's ranking is fourth in the Big Ten and Washington's is fifth, respectively.
