Earlier this week, we learned that the University of Washington football program is losing defensive coach Kirkland Parker to North Texas.
On Tuesday, we learned that the Huskies are also set to gain an assistant on the offensive side of things.
Per Pete Nakos of On3:
Washington is finalizing a deal to hire longtime NFL assistant Matt Cavanaugh as a senior offensive assistant, sources tell @On3.
Will work closely with Jedd Fisch. The former Pitt QB has made stops as the offensive coordinator with the Commanders, Steelers, Ravens and Bears.
Nakos also reports that offensive assistant JP Losman is being elevated to quarterbacks coach. This is a move that has been expected. Washington let go of offensive coordinator Jimmy Daugherty earlier this offseason. They are not going to hire a new offensive coordinator. Fisch will be the team's playcaller.
A 13-year veteran of the NFL, Cavanaugh played quarterback for the New England Patriots, Philadelphia Eagles, San Francisco 49ers and New York Giants in his career. He started 19 games, going 8-11 and tossing for 4,332 yards and 28 touchdowns.
His playing career ended in 1991 and he immediately began coaching. He won two Super Bowls as a player.
He's had stops with the University of Pittsburgh, the Arizona Cardinals, the 49ers, Chicago Bears, Baltimore Ravens, the New York Jets and Washington Redskins (Commanders). He's been the offensive coordinator with the Bears (1997-98), Ravens (1999-04) and Pitt (2005-08).
He won a Super Bowl with the Ravens in the 2000 season.

He was a first-round pick (No. 22) of the Bills in 2004 out of Tulane. He went 10-23 as a starter in his career, starting 16 games for Buffalo in 2006. He threw 33 touchdowns and 34 interceptions. He threw for 6,271 yards.
He stopped playing in 2011 and got into coaching in 2017. He began as a student coaching intern at Clemson.
--Three different University of Washington women's basketball standouts were honored by the Big Ten on Tuesday, including guard Sayvia Sellers, who was named to the first-team all-conference team.
--The Huskies will be back in action on Thursday morning (9 a.m. PT) in the Big 10 Tournament. As the No. 8 seed, they'll take on No. 9 Southern California. UCLA earned the No. 1 seed in the tournament.
