Jailen Hill and Kamil Loud both opted to take their talents elsewhere than the Pacific Northwest

The Washington Huskies football team has had a lot of success this month on the recruiting trail.

The Huskies earned commitments from respective four-star wide receivers Dontay Tyson Jr. and Tre Moore this month and also landed a commitment from three-star edge rusher Chaz Gray.

While Washington has found success with its future pass-catchers and edge rusher, it hasn't had the same success in the secondary.

Earlier this month, the Huskies missed out on three-star defensive back Jeovanni Henley, who opted to commit to former Pac-12 rivals (current ACC school), the Cal Golden Bears.

This month, Washington hosted two cornerback targets for official visits: four-stars Jailen Hill and Kamil Loud.

The Huskies struck out on both corners.

Hill chose the Nebraska Cornhuskers amidst a three-team Big Ten race including the Huskies and defending College Football Playoff national champions, the Indiana Hoosiers, on Tuesday.

Hill attends St. John Bosco High School in Bellflower, Calif., and is ranked as the 294th-best cornerback, 34th-best cornerback and 25th-best player in California in the class, per the 247Sports composite.

A day before Hill opted to choose Washington's Big Ten rivals, Loud became the second defensive back this month to choose the Golden Bears over UW.

UW announced his commitment to Cal on Monday. He chose the Golden Bears over other finalists including the Huskies, Florida State Seminoles, Miami Hurricanes, Utah Utes and Auburn Tigers.

Loud, who attends Bishop Gorman High School in Las Vegas, is ranked as the 314th-best overall player, 36th-best cornerback and second-best player in Nevada per the 247Sports composite.

Loud had a familial tie to Cal, which helped push the university over the finish line for him. His father, Kamil Loud Sr., played with the Golden Bears from 1994-97 and set school records in career catches (170), receiving yards (3,144) and touchdown receptions (26). He played three seasons in the NFL with the Buffalo Bills, Atlanta Falcons and Pittsburgh Steelers and another two seasons in the Canadian Football League (CFL) with the Calgary Stampeders.

As of Wednesday, Washington's '27 recruiting class ranked 24th in the country, per 247Sports. The Cornhuskers (ranked 17th) and Golden Bears (ranked 21st) both were ranked higher than the Huskies.

three-star cornerback Maurice Williams and three-star safety Isala Aisa Wily-Ava are the only two defensive backs currently committed to Washington from the class of '27.

The Huskies could still add a third defensive back to their class in the form of four-star defensive back and two-sport athlete Jaden Walk-Green. The versatile defensive back, who plays safety and cornerback (and baseball) is currently predicted to commit to UW per 247Sports' Crystal Ball projections.
