Richie Aman could win the award given to the best college soccer player in the country

The Washington Huskies men's soccer team made program history in the NCAA national championship game Monday at WakeMed Soccer Park in Cary, N.C.

The Huskies beat the North Carolina State Wolfpack 3-2 in overtime to claim the first national championship in program history and the first national championship since the university joined the Big Ten in 2024. The Dawgs became the first team in NCAA national tournament history to win six road games and finished with a 16-6-2 record.

Washington received a hero's welcome when the team returned to the Pacific Northwest.

A welcome back ceremony was hosted for the men's soccer team Tuesday at Husky Stadium in Seattle and was attended by fans as well as football head coach Jedd Fisch and university athletic director Pat Chun.

In addition to the national championship, the program could net the best individual award in college soccer.

On Wednesday, team captain and senior midfielder Richie Aman was named a finalist for the Missouri Athletic Club (MAC) Hermann Trophy.

The trophy, named after former National Professional Soccer League president and North American Soccer League CEO Bob Hermann, is annually awarded to the best collegiate men's and women's soccer players in the country.

The award was first established in 1967. If Aman wins, he would be the first player in Huskies history to earn the honor. Aman is up against Grand Canyon freshman forward Junior Diouf and North Carolina State junior forward Donovan Phillip.

Diouf led the NCAA with 18 goals and 42 points, respectively. Phillip scored 17 goals for the national runners-up.

Aman was one of Washington's best players on its national championship run. He scored four goals and a team-leading 14 assists. He had 22 points, which was third-most on the team. His 14 assists were the second-most in a single season in program history and his 22 points were the third-most on the team.

The Hermann award would be the perfect cap for a season full of individual honors for Aman. He was named a first-team All-American, first-team All-Big Ten and first-team Academic All-American. He was named the Big Ten Midfielder of the Year.

The award-winner will be announced in a banquet hosted by the Missouri Athletic Club on Jan. 9, 2026, in St. Louis.
