The sophomore running back filled in admirably for the Huskies in their blowout win against Purdue

The Washington Huskies football team earned a crucial bounceback win in its contest against the Purdue Boilermakers on Saturday.

The Huskies lost 13-10 in its previous contest against the Wisconsin Badgers. It was Wisconsin's first Big Ten win since last season and effectively ended any chance Washington had at making the College Football Playoff.

Even with the loss against the Badgers, the Huskies had an opportunities to finish the regular season with nine wins, which would be their third-best season finish since 2018.

Washington took care of business against Purdue and won 49-13.

And the Huskies did it without one of their best players.

Senior running back and two-time Big Ten Offensive Player of the Week Jonah Coleman originally dressed for the game but didn't start and swapped to street clothes without seeing the field.

Sophomore running back Adam Mohammed got the start in Coleman's stead, and head coach Jedd Fisch had good words to say about how Mohammed performed.

"Lot of young guys were playing, guys that had to step up. It's fun to watch," Fisch said in a postgame news conference Saturday. "That's how you build it, you build it with young guys. ... I thought Adam Mohammed stepped in beautifully as our starting back. Three touchdowns, which was awesome, 60-or-so yards on the ground. ... All together, I thought we had a good game. I'm proud of our guys. Not easy to score 49 points in this conference."

Mohammed rushed the ball 17 times for 59 yards and three touchdowns. He also caught a pass for 27 yards, giving him 76 total yards and three scores on 18 touches.

Mohammed, a Glendale, Ariz., native, originally committed to play at Arizona when Fisch was still the head coach there.

When Fisch made the jump to Washington, Mohammed entered the transfer portal and followed him to the Pacific Northwest. Mohammed played in every single game his freshman year in 2024 as a backup to Coleman.

This season, Mohammed has rushed 69 times for 304 yards (4.4 yards a carry) and five touchdowns. He's caught 13 passes for 119 yards.
