Washington Huskies sophomore quarterback Demond Williams Jr. had a historic showcase in the team's 38-19 win against Rutgers on Oct. 10.
Williams completed 78% of his passes (21-for-27) for 402 yards and two touchdowns Oct. 10. He added 136 yards and another two touchdowns on 13 carries. His 538 yards set a record for the most total yards by a player in program history.
It was the second game this season where Williams had at least four touchdowns in a single game.
For his efforts, Williams was named the Big Ten Offensive Player of the Week. It's Williams' second time this season earning the honor. It's the fourth time overall a Huskies player has won the honor. Senior running back Jonah Coleman has won it twice this season, as well.
Williams has been one of the most efficient quarterbacks in the Big Ten and the nation this season. After Washington's win against the Scarlet Knights, Williams had 1,628 passing yards, 10 touchdowns and one interception this season while completing 74.1% of his passes.
Williams has added 382 yards and four touchdowns on 71 carries this season. His quarterback rating (QBR) of 86.1 ranks fifth in the nation at the Football Bowl Subdivision (FBS) level.
This year is Williams' first as a full-time starter. The Chandler, Ariz., native originally committed to Ole Miss as a high schooler and flipped his commitment to his native Arizona when current Washington and then-Wildcats coach Jedd Fisch was still with the program.
Williams entered the transfer portal and followed Fisch to the Huskies, which has yielded positive results for all parties.
Williams made appearances in all 13 of Washington's games in 2024 and started two of them, but sat behind then-starter Will Rogers.
Washington received votes in the latest Associated Press (AP) Top 25 poll. The team's next game will be against Michigan at 9 a.m. PT/12 p.m. ET at Michigan Stadium in Ann Arbor, Mich. A win against the Wolverines would help the Huskies earn its first placement on the AP poll this season.
Michigan received the second-most amount of votes among teams not in this week's poll (76). Illinois had the most (113) and the Huskies had the third-most (36).
