The Washington Commanders have locked down their star left tackle with an extension in for Laremy Tunsil

The Big Doug and Carmi Show

The Washington Commanders have now officially addressed one of the biggest question marks ahead of the start of free agency.

Per Adam Schefter of ESPN, Tunsil signed a two year, $60.2 million extension.

The extension also comes after the team has made a flurry of moves to address the offensive line this offseason, re-signing both interior offensive linemen Nick Allegretti and Andrew Wylie while releasing Tyler Biadasz after becoming the team's starting center over the last two seasons before missing the final two weeks of the 2025 season due to injury.

Tunsil arrived in Washington via trade back on March 10, 2025 after Washington sent four picks - one day two and three pick in both 2025 and 2026 - to the Houston Texans in exchange for the star left tackle and a 2025 fourth round pick, marking a signature move for general manager Adam Peters.

The move also came just days after the team acquired wide receiver Deebo Samuel, who is expected to sign elsewhere in free agency this offseason, but the extension has been viewed as likely ever since the end of the 2025 season. Peters also reiterated his confidence ahead of the NFL scouting combine last month.

Peters noted the two sides were in "constant communication" as he prepared to enter the final year of his three year, $75 million contract after Tunsil expressed an interest in returning to the Commanders for a second season despite a five-win season.

"He's self represented, but he has a team around him that we have constant communication with and have throughout the year. So I think what I can say is we definitely want to get something done with them sooner rather than later," Peters said of Tunsil.

Tunsil is coming off a 2025 season where he proved to be among the best left tackles across the league despite missing out on All Pro honors after he allowed just two sacks and 15 pressures in nearly 500 snaps in pass protection.

"He's been phenomenal more than I could have ever expected," former offensive coordinator Kliff Kingsbury said during the final weeks of the 2025 season. "I'd say just the type of person, the type of character, the way he works, the way he leads the young guys, and it's been phenomenal, and the play speaks for itself. It’d be hard to find one that's played better at that position this season, so he's going to get a lot of money."
