The Washington Commanders made a handful of roster moves official on Wednesday, including free agent additions to both the 53-man roster and practice squad, along with injury updates.
While head coach Dan Quinn noted he was awaiting Wednesday's practice to assess the game status of several Commanders, the team announced that linebacker Jordan Magee has been placed on the reserve/injured list after suffering a hamstring injury in the week one loss against Philadelphia. Head coach Dan Quinn also noted that safety Tyler Owens, who suffered an ankle injury against Philadelphia, will be available on Wednesday after the special teams standout downplayed his injury during an interview one day prior. Linebacker Frankie Luvu and tight end Chig Okonkwo remain uncertain as both were held out of practice on Wednesday with "some uncertainty for the weekend" regarding the availability of both against the Dallas Cowboys in week two.
The team also made the signing of interior offensive lineman Lucas Patrick official, hours after the news first broke and one day after the guard and center option arrived in Ashburn for a visit. After stints with the Chicago Bears and Green Bay Packers among others, Patrick arrives after a preseason stint with the New York Giants ended with an injury settlement following a knee injury, giving the veteran a chance to turn the page within the NFC East.
Washington also announced two additions to the practice squad after signing outside linebacker Marvin Jones Jr. and linebacker Austin Keys. Jones was among the batch of players the Commanders brought in for workouts on Tuesday as the coaching staff assessed its depth options. Keys, meanwhile, is looking to latch on in the NFL after the former undrafted free agent had stints with both the Minnesota Vikings and Arizona Cardinals since the 2025 NFL Draft.
Jones and Keys also fill the two voids on the practice squad after the team announced on Tuesday that outside linebacker DJ Johnson and cornerback Darius Rush were released. While Rush was in the early stages of his second season with the team, Johnson was among the players the team signed during training camp amid injuries to both Odafe Oweh and K'Lavon Chaisson.
The Commanders are set to remain on the road in week two of the 2026 NFL season to face the second straight NFC East opponent when they face the Dallas Cowboys on Sunday, Sept. 20 for a 4:25 PM kickoff on FOX.
