Veteran wide receiver Terry McLaurin calls new Washington Commanders offensive coordinator David Blough ahead of OTAs.

The Washington Commanders' wide receiver room has drawn the bulk of the attention through the offseason with a need for upgrades following the 2025 season and still questions whether the team has done enough. Brandon Aiyuk has been a target seemingly for months with no end in sight as to when a resolution could materialize. Veteran Stefon Diggs became the latest tangible name to surface after he was cleared of his ongoing legal cases with the Commanders a team consistently pointed to as a logical landing spot.

Still, ongoing questions remain about who the third starter will be with a chance for rookie Antonio Williams, who served as the team's lone pick on day two of the draft, to step into an immediate impact role. For veteran Terry McLaurin, the offense gives him a chance to become a focal point of the passing attack as he enters his eighth season with the team. And after David Blough explored "how do we get Terry ten targets a game" after being named the new offensive coordinator, a message that McLaurin noted Blough revealed to him back in February, the veteran admitted "I can definitely tell" with offseason workouts already kicked off.

"He and I have a really good relationship and he's been a man of his word," McLaurin told reporters at a local golf event. "My job is to prove that each and every day when we're having workouts to be the leader, to be someone who you can count on to be on the field and make plays. That's all I've been asking for."

McLaurin also called Blough a "master communicator" with the offense beginning to piece together while leaning on the two years of familiarity with the personnel.

"I think he does a good job of explaining what his expectations are, but also he's personable enough to communicate how he wants it done and also holding a standard that is going to force us to continue to raise our level of play," McLaurin added.

McLaurin noted his extra attention he commands in the passing attack could also create "opportunities for me to take away coverage" with others like newly signed tight end Chig Okonkwo and running back Rachaad White looking to become impact pieces as they were signed to be, while the front office also added a trio of wide receivers including two free agents in Dyami Brown and Van Jefferson.

The Ohio State product is coming off a career-low 582 yards on 60 catches in 2025, though that came off the heels of the 30 year old wideout playing in just ten games after suffering a quad injury that persisted through the season. Yet with his contract negotiations behind him and back at full strength, he and the new pieces are looking to hit the ground running ahead of year three of the Dan Quinn era.

Washington will kick off the first of three OTA weekends starting May 27 ahead of mandatory minicamp beginning June 18. McLaurin added it was quarterback Jayden Daniels who organized a workout last month in Los Angeles after Daniels "really led the charge" in an effort to get connected.
