Here's why the New York Jets are the perfect landing spot for quarterback Brendan Sorsby in the 2026 NFL Supplemental Draft this offseason.
The New York Jets are currently in one of the worst positions a team could be in before the 2026 NFL season.
After a measly performance throughout the 2025 season, general manager Darren Mougey made plenty of moves on both the offensive and defensive sides of the ball this offseason. But unfortunately for the struggling organization, the quarterback position remains a huge question mark looking ahead in the future. New York traded for former 2013 second-round pick Geno Smith this offseason, but it’s clear that the 25-year-old veteran is not the long-term answer for the Jets.
Luckily for Mougey and the front office, there is a viable option for the future of the quarterback position this offseason in former Cincinnati Bearcats’ standout Brendan Sorsby in the 2026 NFL Supplemental Draft.
Should the Jets Pursue Sorsby?
Sorsby, after a successful 2025 campaign with the Bearcats, was set to become one of the top quarterbacks in the upcoming NFL Draft class. His terrific stretch last year led to him entering the transfer portal this offseason and committing to the Texas Tech Red Raiders.
However, his plans to improve his draft stock this offseason were quickly spoiled this week when the team announced they were parting ways with him after his betting scandal that rocked the college football world this summer. Now, Sorsby is set to enter this year’s Supplemental Draft, with many teams being in the mix for the young talent.
As a highly-touted quarterback, Sorsby clearly possesses the tools to be an excellent starter in the NFL. His dual-threat ability on the ground and through the air, along with his plus arm strength, is everything that an offensive coordinator could desire out of his quarterback at the professional level. Sorsby has proven to be someone who can make any throw at all three levels of the field and is not afraid to let his arm loose at any given moment.
Unfortunately for the NFL-hopeful, there are still plenty of issues regarding Sorsby’s game that could steer NFL teams away from him in the Supplemental Draft. While he is able to complete any throw, his risky style of play can create turnovers in the passing game. In addition to his sporadic style of play, Sorsby has also struggled to manage the game within the pocket in college, which could affect him once he makes the jump to the NFL.
Still, with the current climate of the Jets’ quarterback room, Sorsby could have the highest ceiling in the room if the front office decides to select him in the Supplemental Draft. And to make matters more promising for New York, if Sorsby does shine with the offense in the scenario that the Jets land him, this would give Mougey the flexibility to use both of the team’s 2027 first-round picks to attack other positions of need in the future.
