Steelers Should Make this Trade for Pro Bowl Wide Receiver cover image

The Pittsburgh Steelers need a wide receiver and they needed it yesterday.

Initially, it was reported that the Steelers were looking at Tyreek Hill as a trade option, but after he suffered that gruesome injury in Week 4 against the New York Jets, that was off the table.

The Philadelphia Eagles may have an answer for that.

Star wide receiver, AJ Brown has been in the news for how he’s expressed his frustration with the offense and there are suspicions that he’ll want a trade out of Philly.

Even though Brown shut down those rumors shortly after posting an ominous message on X, it’s clear that the offense is still struggling and are failing to be on the same page.

For the Steelers, it doesn’t hurt to inquire what the price for Brown would be.

Brown is a three time Pro Bowler who was critical in helping the Eagles capture Super Bowl 57 and landing in Pittsburgh would only help morale for not just him, but the team as a whole.

He does come with a hefty price tag, but it would mean that Pittsburgh would reunite Brown with his former college teammate, DK Metcalf.

There’s no doubt that behind Metcalf, the wide receiver room in Pittsburgh is a tad suspect. The Steelers do have Calvin Austin, who Aaron Rodgers has gone on record to liking his game, but Austin is too much of an unproven commodity to trust as the second option through the air.

Austin had also gotten injured in the game in Dublin, Ireland against the Minnesota Vikings, which raises even more suspicions about the receiver room.

Because of that, the Steelers are turning to none other than Ben Skowronek and Scotty Miller, both serviceable depth receivers who have won Super Bowls in that very position.

But as the season goes on, there’s no way that you can trust either as long term options.

The Steelers also have Roman Wilson, who they drafted in the fourth round in the 2023  NFL Draft, but it’s evident that he’s not making the kind of progress that they were hoping.

So if not Brown, then who? He has the relationship with Metcalf, it puts Austin in a low pressure situation when he comes back, and it’s in his more comfortable WR3 spot.

Not only that, it helps Rodgers immensely so that he doesn’t have to rely on lower-end receivers like Skowronek and Miller.

Pittsburgh is already having a solid start to the season in the standings, but a trade for Brown would raise the stakes even higher.
