The Werkself lose Christian Kofane to a muscle tear just as a grueling seven-match stretch begins, intensifying pressure on Patrik Schick amid swirling Premier League transfer rumors.

Bayer Leverkusen have officially confirmed that Christian Kofane will be sidelined for several weeks after suffering a thigh injury while on international duty with Cameroon.

The 20-year-old striker sustained a muscle injury in his left thigh during the international break and will miss the Werkself's upcoming fixtures, the club announced on Friday.

The confirmation comes at an unfortunate moment for Die Werkself, who are preparing for seven competitive matches in just 22 days.

It also follows reports of complications in negotiations over Kofane's long-term future at the BayArena.

Leverkusen Confirm Several Weeks On The Sidelines

Kofane's injury was initially reported earlier this week, but the German side has now provided official confirmation of the problem.

The striker will be unavailable for the upcoming Bundesliga matches, beginning with Saturday's trip to Mainz.

With Leverkusen also facing Europa League and DFB Pokal commitments during October, his absence will reduce Carles Martínez's attacking options during one of the busiest periods of the season.

The club have not announced a specific return date.

The length of his absence will depend on his recovery from the muscle injury, meaning Die Werkself must prepare for several matches without him.

Martínez Loses An Important Attacking Option

Kofane has established himself as one of Leverkusen's most promising young attackers since arriving from Albacete in the summer of 2025.

The Cameroon international has continued to develop this season, scoring three goals in six competitive appearances.

His pace, movement and willingness to attack space behind opposing defences offer Martínez a different attacking profile from Patrik Schick.

While Schick remains Bayer's established centre-forward, Kofane has provided an alternative capable of changing the team's approach during matches.

Schick is expected to carry much of the responsibility in the central attacking position while Kofane recovers.

Injury Comes Amid Contract Uncertainty

The setback also arrives during a complicated period away from the pitch.

On Thursday, Roundtable reported that negotiations between Leverkusen and Kofane's representatives had stalled.

However, Kofane is interested in a move to the Premier League. Arsenal, Manchester United and several other English clubs have been linked with the striker.

Leverkusen reportedly valued Kofane at between €60 million and €70 million during the summer. His injury does not change the club's contractual position, but it temporarily shifts attention away from transfer speculation and towards his recovery.

A Demanding Schedule Awaits And A Chance For Boniface

Leverkusen begins its October run against Mainz before facing Freiburg, Hoffenheim, and Stuttgart in the Bundesliga.

Europa League matches against Lech Poznań and OFI Crete, along with a DFB Pokal fixture against Nürnberg, complete a demanding sequence.

Kofane will miss at least part of that schedule, although the club has not specified exactly which matches he could return for.

His absence comes alongside concerns about Ibrahim Maza, who is dealing with an ankle bruise sustained while representing Algeria.

Maza has avoided a serious injury, but his availability against Mainz remains uncertain.

For Martínez, the immediate challenge is maintaining attacking consistency while managing a squad already affected by injuries.

Kofane's absence could also create an opportunity for Victor Boniface to earn more minutes. Although the Nigerian remains behind Patrik Schick and Kofane in the attacking pecking order, the busy schedule could give him a chance to work his way into contention.

With several competitions to navigate, Boniface will be hoping to make the most of any opportunities that come his way.

For now, the priority is recovery rather than contract negotiations or Premier League speculation.

From here, the stage only gets bigger.
