Will Yan Couto Get His Move Away From Borussia Dortmund This Summer?
The club have been a little inactive when it comes to incomings this summer so far, but it was appearing that outgoings were something that they were finding easier to do. Following the announcement of Julien Duranville's departure, there has been one exit that has been in advanced talks for some time, and many, including myself, were just waiting for the official announcement.
But if recent reports are to be believed, the proposed deal is at risk of collapsing.
Yan Couto Looked Set For Como Switch
A move away from the Signal Iduna Park seemed to be progressing well for Yan Couto, following a season in which first team minutes were few and far between, largely due to the phenomenal form of fellow full back Julian Ryerson. It was clear that a fresh start was needed for the Brazilian, and Dortmund were willing to facilitate a move as well.

Deal Collapsing?
However, reports from Gianluca Di Marzio suggest that the prospect of signing Yan Couto this summer is fading, with negotiations seemingly stalling, as the clubs are currently unable to agree to a transfer for Yan Couto. This delay and impasse are frustrating Como, who are beginning to look elsewhere for reinforcements in the full-back position.
Where do Borussia Dortmund and Yan Couto Go From Here?
So, if this proposed move to Italy were to collapse, what would happen next? Well, with plenty of time still left in this summer’s transfer window, you would imagine that a move away from Borussia Dortmund could remain firmly on the cards.
However, as we get closer to the conclusion of the transfer window, it becomes more likely that any move is not necessarily permanent and could instead be a loan away from Borussia Dortmund.

With Yan Couto contracted to Borussia Dortmund until 2029, the club are not under any pressure to sell an asset that isn’t likely to bring in a massive fee.
This scenario seems unlikely given the number of weeks left in the transfer window, but a club making a move for the Brazilian remains relatively likely.

While the move for Yan Couto to Como seems to be on the rocks, from a Borussia Dortmund point of view, there will be no panic yet. The Yan Couto situation is a win-win for the club.
Either they keep the full back as a backup to Julian Ryerson for next season, or they manage to sell Yan Couto and buy a replacement that is younger, cheaper and less ready to be a starter for the Yellow Wall week in, week out, allowing them to develop into a long-term successor to Julian Ryerson.
As for Yan Couto himself, that is where any urgency may arise, as he will be desperate to be playing first-team football every week come the start of next season, and a collapsed move to Como means that he and his representatives will need to find a different club willing to take a chance on the 24-year-old.
