Every year, there are several young, exciting and full of potential players that make their breakthrough into a first team in the Premier League. Players ranging from Liverpool's Rio Ngumoha to Arsenal's Max Dowman are among a few names that have made people sit up and listen in the last campaign. 

But a less well-known player, a lower profile with a lower quality club, also had their breakout year in first team football, starring in a relegation finishing side with the potential to have his pick of many top European clubs this summer due to his performances, and his name is Mateus Mane.

Mateus Mane was a shining light in what was a miserable campaign for his club, Wolverhampton Wanderers (Wolves). The club finished the season on just 20 points and was comfortably relegated to the EFL Championship for next season.

However, this was due to some high-profile sales in the summer before the last campaign for Wolves, including Matheus Cunha, Rayan Ait-Nouri, Jhon Arias and Borussia Dortmund’s very own Fabio Silva. 

These players were essential cogs within the Wolves' first team and were not adequately replaced. This resulted in Wolves needing to use players they already had, as well as their academy prospects, and up stepped Mateus Mane.

In a season where it was pretty evident early on that Wolves were in trouble, Mateus Mane stepped up and tried to produce in the toughest league in the world at just 18 years old.

Lightning quick speed, fast trickery and the ability to produce moments out of nothing with very little assistance, it is these attributes, among others, that have caught the eye of clubs around Europe, one of them being Borussia Dortmund, who are on the lookout for a forward player that can do all of these things. 

At just 18 years old, Mateus Mane offers an incredibly high ceiling on top of a player who has a season's worth of experience playing in the Premier League. And it is for this reason that Wolves are very keen on keeping the Portuguese Under-21 international, despite being in the Championship next season. 

Playing primarily behind the central striker, the attacker has attracted the interest of not only Borussia Dortmund but also Newcastle United and Eintracht Frankfurt, according to Liam Keen. Therefore, it seems highly likely that if Wolves were to weaken their stance on Mateus Mane, there would be a host of clubs queuing up with Borussia Dortmund to try and sign him.

The signing of Mateus Mane would fit perfectly into the player profile that Borussia Dortmund needs. A young, pacey, dynamic attacker with bundles of energy and the ability to produce moments of magic from nothing, he could take his game to a whole new level playing consistently for a side like Borussia Dortmund, who have an established pedigree in getting the best out of young players.

So this would seem like a perfect move for both parties, but with the level of interest in Mateus Mane from other clubs and Wolves' current not for sale stance, it appears that, as things stand right now, this deal would be difficult to pull off, but it is certainly one to keep an eye on for the Yellow Wall.
