Celtic are reportedly interested in signing Jong PSV midfielder Joël van den Berg, with the 19-year-old eager to move to Scotland.

However, the Scottish giants have yet to submit a formal offer to PSV, leaving the potential transfer in a delicate stage with the window closing next week.

According to PSV watcher Rik Elfrink of Eindhovens Dagblad, Celtic want to sign Van den Berg immediately, and the player’s camp understands that the Scottish club is prepared to make a serious move.

The interest is not new. Celtic have been monitoring Van den Berg for some time and are reportedly willing to pay between €3 million and €4 million for the defender.

Yet, despite this apparent willingness to invest, PSV have not yet received a concrete bid. The Eindhoven club is therefore waiting to see whether Celtic will follow through with its interest and actually make a formal offer.

Van den Berg's desire to make the move has already had a direct consequence. He has not featured for Jong PSV in Friday evening's match against RKC.

The situation mirrors the recent departure of Jordy Bawuah, who was also left out of Stijn Schaars' squad before completing his move to FC Twente. Bawuah reportedly joined the Enschede club for around €1 million to €1.5 million, although PSV have not yet officially confirmed that figure.

There is an important difference between the two situations. Bawuah was in the final year of his contract, while Van den Berg still has two years remaining on his PSV deal.

PSV had planned to continue developing the teenager, but a multi-million-euro offer could now change the club's plans. For the moment, everything depends on whether Celtic turn their interest into a formal proposal.

The potential departure of Van den Berg comes as PSV remain extremely active in the final days of the transfer window.

PSV are pushing to sign Sami Ouaissa from NEC, with the winger currently valued at more than €10 million. NEC have so far refused to lower their demands, meaning an agreement must be reached quickly with the transfer window closing on Wednesday.

Ouaissa is keen on the move, and a multi-year contract is reportedly ready, while a medical examination has already been scheduled as a precaution.

PSV are also working to bring Sam Lammers back to Eindhoven from FC Twente. The striker wants the move, but personal terms and an agreement between the clubs still need to be finalised.

There is further activity behind the scenes. PSV have submitted a bid for Ayoni Santos, although that proposal was rejected and the situation remains ongoing.

Meanwhile, Esmir Bajraktarevic is allowed to leave and wants to depart in the coming days, particularly if PSV succeed in bringing Ouaissa to Eindhoven. Eintracht Frankfurt have not made an approach but remain among the clubs with interest.

With two medical examinations already scheduled for next week, PSV could yet have further business to complete before the window closes.

For Van den Berg, however, the immediate question is whether Celtic will finally make the concrete offer that PSV are waiting for.
