Peter Bosz eyes a nostalgic reunion as the Eredivisie champions track Sam Lammers, potentially offering the FC Twente forward a path back to his boyhood club.
PSV are continuing to explore the transfer market despite completing the arrival of Lutsharel Geertruida, with former academy striker Sam Lammers reportedly emerging as an option to strengthen Peter Bosz's attack.
The reigning Dutch champions are still looking for additional attacking depth, and according to Eindhovens Dagblad, their search could take them to Enschede.
Lammers, currently under contract with FC Twente, has reportedly appeared on PSV's radar. The striker is currently behind Wout Weghorst in the pecking order at Twente, which could lead to a move before the transfer window closes.
PSV yet to contact FC Twente
Despite the reported interest, there has been no approach to FC Twente from PSV at this stage.
PSV watcher Rik Elfrink explained the situation in Eindhovens Dagblad:
“For that position at PSV, Sam Lammers’ name has also come up. The Eindhoven club sees him as an additional option, but the question is whether Lammers can now be released from Enschede. PSV has, according to multiple sources, not yet contacted FC Twente about Lammers.”
That means the idea remains at an exploratory stage rather than developing into concrete negotiations between the clubs.
The potential return would nevertheless carry a familiar feel for Lammers. The 28-year-old came through PSV's academy between 2010 and 2016 before making his senior debut in September 2016 under then-manager Phillip Cocu.
From PSV academy to FC Twente
After a loan spell with SC Heerenveen, Lammers left PSV permanently in 2020, joining Atalanta for a reported €10 million.
His career subsequently included several loan spells before he returned to the Netherlands with FC Utrecht in 2024. That same summer, FC Twente signed him permanently.
Lammers has now found himself competing with Weghorst for a starting position, while PSV continue to assess their options in attack.
Although Lammers' current contract is understood to be relatively short-term, PSV would still have to negotiate with Twente if they decided to pursue the former academy product.
Elfrink highlighted that financial aspect as quoted by PSV Inside:
“The question is also whether Lammers can be released cheaply there, despite a contract that is still only short-term.”
For now, PSV have not made their interest concrete. Lammers is viewed as an additional option, rather than an established transfer target, but his familiarity with the club and experience in the Eredivisie could make him an intriguing name as PSV consider further attacking reinforcements.
