The Dortmund midfielder breaks down the telepathic chemistry and specialized movement that makes Guus Til a lethal weapon for the Netherlands following their crucial Nations League victory.
Joey Veerman has highlighted the qualities of former PSV teammate Guus Til after the midfielder helped the Netherlands secure a 2-1 Nations League victory over Serbia.
Speaking to Noa Vahle of Vandaag Inside after the match, Veerman was asked about being reunited with Til at international level following his summer move from PSV to Borussia Dortmund.
“I was delighted when he was called up. In any case, I think we have a really nice team, who also get on very well with each other. I think you can see that on the pitch as well,” Veerman said, as quoted by GOAL.
The pair also appeared to retain their understanding on the pitch. Veerman specifically praised Til’s ability to recognise opportunities and make runs behind the opposition defence.
“He is someone who has a very good eye for runs in behind. That is great for me, of course,” the Dortmund midfielder explained.
Veerman went further when asked about the specific quality he values most in their partnership.
“If I have the ball in space, there is always someone making a run in behind. He is the very best at that,” he said of Til.
Til entered the match in the 67th minute, replacing Ryan Gravenberch, and made an immediate impact.
The PSV midfielder played a key role in the winning goal, providing the assist for Mexx Meerdink. Til slipped a short pass to the AZ striker, who controlled the ball and found the far corner to make it 2-1.
Meerdink’s two goals ultimately secured all three points for the Netherlands, while Til’s cameo provided another example of the understanding Veerman had highlighted.
For Veerman, the reunion with his former PSV teammate has therefore already produced a positive moment for the Netherlands, with Til’s movement giving the midfielder a clear option whenever he receives possession in space.
