Joey Veerman has officially left PSV after four and a half years, completing his move to Borussia Dortmund. The 27-year-old midfielder has signed a five-season contract with the German giants after an unforgettable spell in Eindhoven.

Joey Veerman has completed his long-awaited move from PSV to Borussia Dortmund, bringing an end to four and a half years in Eindhoven.

PSV reached an agreement with Dortmund over the transfer last weekend, before Veerman completed his medical examination on Monday. The German club have now officially presented the Volendam-born midfielder as a new player of Die Schwarzgelben, with the 27-year-old signing a contract until 2031.

For Veerman, the transfer represents the next step in a career that has developed significantly since joining PSV from SC Heerenveen in January 2022.

“Where should I start?” says Veerman when asked to look back on his memorable time with PSV. “I’ve won eight trophies here, experienced amazing European matches, made friends for life, became a player on the Dutch national team, my children were born here in Brabant, and I could go on and on.”

The midfielder leaves Eindhoven with a deep connection to the club and the region.

“PSV and Brabant have come to feel like home to me and my entire family. Those were magical years, in every respect. But sometimes an opportunity comes along that you have to seize. Borussia Dortmund is a perfect example of that.”

Veerman added that the move represents a dream opportunity.

“For me, this is a dream next step, one I’m really looking forward to. I’m going to do everything I can to make this adventure a success.”

He also thanked the club and those around him for an unforgettable period.

“At the same time, there are so many people at PSV whom I’m going to miss. I want to thank everyone for an unforgettable time. And we’ll undoubtedly see each other again soon.”

Nearly 200 Matches And Eight Trophies

Veerman developed into a key figure at PSV, earning 16 caps for the Netherlands while establishing himself as one of the Eredivisie's leading midfield playmakers.

His passing range, goals and ability to influence games helped make him a fan favourite. He leaves with nearly 200 official appearances for PSV and eight major trophies: three Eredivisie titles, two KNVB Cups and three Johan Cruijff Shields.

Director of Football Earnest Stewart paid tribute to the midfielder while acknowledging his desire to test himself at a higher level.

“Joey is a football player with unique qualities, and we would have loved to see him shine in a PSV jersey for many more years. At the same time, we fully realize that he is an ambitious player who now has a wonderful opportunity to challenge himself at an even higher level.”

Stewart added:

“We all wholeheartedly support Joey’s transfer, thank him for everything, and wish him tremendous success in Dortmund.”

Excelsior Was His PSV Farewell

Veerman's final appearance for PSV came last Saturday in the 2-1 victory away to Excelsior.

Even in his final match, he provided a reminder of his quality, producing an excellent through ball for Paul Wanner before Ruben van Bommel eventually converted the resulting opportunity.

His departure had been made possible by a transfer clause in his PSV contract, although interest initially remained relatively quiet before Dortmund accelerated their pursuit last week.

Now the next chapter begins in Germany.

For PSV, Veerman leaves behind four and a half years of trophies, memorable performances and almost 200 appearances. For the midfielder, Borussia Dortmund represents the opportunity he had been waiting for.
