Following a breakout international display, the Dutch winger’s skyrocketing valuation has experts predicting a record-breaking move to England as he evolves into one of Europe’s elite talents.

Ruben van Bommel has returned to PSV after a breakthrough international break with the Netherlands, and the expectations surrounding the young winger are already growing rapidly.

Van Bommel made his senior Oranje debut under Xavi Hernandez and produced a standout moment with a superb assist against Germany. His performances have now sparked predictions that PSV could eventually command a huge transfer fee for the 21-year-old.

Former PSV favourite Willy van de Kerkhof believes Van Bommel can develop into one of the best players in Europe, while René van der Gijp has gone a step further by putting a potential price tag on the winger.

Van der Gijp Predicts €75 Million PSV Payday

Speaking on Vandaag Inside, Van der Gijp suggested that PSV could receive at least €75 million if Van Bommel continues his current development.

“If he continues like this, PSV will receive 75 million euros for him,” Van der Gijp said.

The prediction comes after Van Bommel’s impressive start to life with the Netherlands, although his international performances were not uniformly outstanding.

Against Germany, he produced a world-class assist, while his subsequent display against Serbia was less influential.

That has prompted some caution over the speed of his development, particularly given his previous injury problems.

Willy Van de Kerkhof: “He Is Going to Be a Fantastic Player”

Willy van de Kerkhof remains convinced that Van Bommel has the qualities to reach the very top.

“He is going to be a fantastic player; I am convinced of that. Van Bommel is going to become one of the best players in Europe within a few years, just wait and see,” Willy said on the Willy & René PSV Podcast on Omroep Brabant.

His brother René is taking a more measured approach.

“Against Germany, of course, he gave a world-class assist, but against Serbia it was considerably less afterward. You just have to wait and see how he develops,” René said.

Willy, however, believes Van Bommel has the right support around him to continue progressing. His father, former PSV and Netherlands midfielder Mark van Bommel, and grandfather Bert van Marwijk both have extensive experience at the highest level.

“He also has two excellent coaches behind him. His father Mark and his grandfather Bert van Marwijk,” Willy said, as quoted by PSV Inside.

He also revealed that he spoke with Van Bommel during the Serbia match before making another bold prediction.

“If he keeps it up like this, then in a few months someone from England with a hefty sum of money will be on the doorstep,” Willy added.

Fitness Remains an Important Factor

Alongside the excitement surrounding Van Bommel’s rapid rise, questions remain over his ability to stay consistently fit.

The PSV winger previously suffered a serious ACL injury, and a long spell on the sidelines can sometimes be followed by muscle problems when players return to full fitness. Van Bommel has also developed into a physically powerful player during his recovery.

For PSV, his continued fitness and development will therefore be crucial.

The early signs are encouraging. Van Bommel has now established himself on the international stage, and if his progress continues as predicted, PSV could eventually face a major decision over his future.

For now, however, the focus is on maintaining his development and ensuring the young winger can build on his first taste of Oranje football.
