Earnest Stewart reportedly might have taken an interest in the French playmaker after his masterclass for FC Twente, where he displayed a rare combination of technical flair and physical power that dismantled the league leaders.

PSV technical director Earnest Stewart may have taken particular notice of Daouda Weidmann after the FC Twente midfielder produced a decisive performance in Sunday’s 3-2 victory over PSV.

Weidmann was one of the standout performers as Twente completed a late comeback in Enschede, scoring the winning goal after Wout Weghorst had restored parity.

The 23-year-old Frenchman collected the ball and embarked on a superb solo run before keeping his composure to fire Twente into the lead. His performance immediately caught the attention of De Ballen Verstand analyst and Twente watcher Leon ten Voorde.

“It is very impressive how he keeps his balance and manages to score that goal. That was top class,” Ten Voorde said, as quoted by GOAL.

The journalist went further, suggesting the performance could have prompted Stewart to take note of the midfielder as a potential future target.

“I think Earnest Stewart, PSV’s technical director, drove back to Eindhoven, opened his laptop and put Weidmann at the top of his wish list,” Ten Voorde said.

‘This boy has something’

Ten Voorde believes Weidmann possesses a combination of technical quality and dribbling ability that is rarely seen in the Eredivisie.

“This boy has something,” he added. “He has a technical gift and a dribble that you do not see very often on Dutch pitches. That sounds lofty, but this boy has something special.”

The midfielder’s performance was not limited to his decisive goal. Ten Voorde also highlighted his ability to influence the tempo and compete physically.

“It has been a long time since we have seen such a comfortable player on the ball in Enschede,” he said. “He has an extra burst, dictates the tempo and wins duels.”

“If he keeps his head screwed on, he has a very fine career ahead of him.”

Twente Secured Weidmann On A Bargain Deal

Twente signed Weidmann from RKC Waalwijk last summer for a fee of around €1 million. Since arriving in Enschede, he has developed into an important member of John van den Brom’s team.

His decisive contribution against PSV represents his standout moment so far, with the victory moving Twente up the Eredivisie table while handing PSV their first league defeat of the season.

Weidmann remains under contract with Twente until the summer of 2030, meaning any potential future interest would have to involve negotiations with the Enschede club.

For now, Ten Voorde’s comments provide an indication of the impression Weidmann’s performance made, with his technical quality and decisive contribution placing him firmly on the radar of one of the Netherlands’ leading clubs.
