PSV Eindhoven and Rangers have reached an oral agreement in principle for the transfer of Couhaib Driouech, with the Moroccan winger set to move to Glasgow for a fee of around €8.5 million, subject to a medical and final formalities.

PSV and Rangers are closing in on a deal for Couhaib Driouech, with the two clubs understood to have reached an oral agreement in principle.

According to transfer journalist Mounir Boualin of Soccernews.nl, PSV will receive around €8.5 million for the 24-year-old winger, who still had a contract with the Eindhoven club until the summer of 2029.

Driouech joined PSV from Excelsior in the summer of 2024 for approximately €4 million but was unable to establish himself as a regular starter during his time at the Philips Stadion.

Rangers Return With Improved Offer

Rangers initially contacted PSV last week with a proposal worth around €7.5 million, but that bid was rejected.

Boualin reported that PSV were initially seeking between €8 million and €8.5 million for the forward.

“Rangers officially contacted PSV last week and submitted an offer of around 7.5 million euros for Driouech. That proposal was brushed aside by the Eindhoven club,” Boualin wrote, as relayed by PSV Inside.

The Scottish club subsequently returned with an improved offer and continued discussions with both PSV and Driouech. Those negotiations have now produced an agreement in principle between all parties.

Celta Vigo Tried To Hijack Deal

Rangers were not alone in pursuing Driouech. Spanish club Celta de Vigo also approached the Morocco international and at one stage appeared to be in pole position to secure his signature.

“In the meantime, the transfer soap also took a Spanish turn. Celta de Vigo also contacted PSV and wanted to snatch Driouech away from under the Rangers' noses,” Boualin reported.

However, Rangers stepped up their efforts and eventually convinced the player to choose a move to Scotland.

“Rangers ultimately managed to convince the attacker with a clear plan and the prospect offered to him in Glasgow,” Boualin added. The club reportedly views Driouech as an important addition to its attacking options.

Rangers FC Manager Derek McInnes looked to add further attacking quality to his squad. The winger could become the 10th signing of the summer at Ibrox if a deal is completed.

McInnes is also expected to strengthen other areas of his squad, with another centre-back and a left-back among the positions being targeted.

Medical Still To Come

Despite the agreement, the transfer has not yet been formally completed.

Driouech is yet to undergo a medical examination before signing a multi-year contract with Rangers. A number of final details and formalities also remain to be completed.

“If that assessment does not reveal any problems and the remaining formalities are completed, then nothing stands in the way of a transfer to Glasgow,” Boualin wrote.

Driouech's departure would bring an end to his PSV spell, having made 61 official appearances, scored 12 goals and provided 10 assists since arriving from Excelsior.
