Karim El Ahmadi slammed the Eredivisie leaders’ fragility after a late collapse in Enschede, exposing defensive flaws and a lack of rhythm that ended their unbeaten streak.

PSV head into the international break with their first competitive defeat of the 2026/27 season after surrendering a 2-1 lead in a dramatic 3-2 loss to FC Twente.

Peter Bosz’s side appeared to be in control for long periods in Enschede, but two goals in the final quarter of an hour turned the match around. Wout Weghorst equalised before Daouda Weidmann completed Twente’s comeback with a superb individual effort.

The result prompted strong criticism from ESPN analyst Karim El Ahmadi, who questioned PSV’s consistency throughout the match.

“If PSV has a rhythm, they’re very good. But if they don’t have that for a while, then they’re also very poor,” El Ahmadi said on Dit was het Weekend, as quoted by PSV Inside.

El Ahmadi Questions PSV’s Consistency

The former midfielder felt PSV were capable of dominating the game but repeatedly allowed Twente back into the contest through their own play.

“They can’t play like a 6,” he said. “At moments in the first half, they dominated, but there were also a lot of moments when they helped FC Twente in the match.”

El Ahmadi was particularly critical of PSV’s decision-making when they had possession, arguing that their own mistakes gave Twente opportunities to regain momentum.

The analyst also singled out the defending for Weidmann’s winning goal.

“This is typical PSV. You get the chance to commit a foul and you get shoved away a couple of times,” El Ahmadi said.

“I really thought PSV defended poorly. I thought Twente had fought their way into the match well, but I also think PSV was rather poor in a lot of moments during the game.”

Perez Praises Twente’s Response

Kenneth Perez offered a different emphasis, focusing on Twente’s ability to recover after falling behind twice.

“What I found very impressive about Twente was that they were actually the better side throughout the whole match, conceded two goals, and overcame that blow,” Perez said.

“They kept the upper hand.”

For PSV, the defeat means Bosz’s team enter the international break with questions to address after failing to protect a lead for the first time this season.

The 3-2 loss also ended PSV’s unbeaten start to the campaign and highlighted the narrow margins involved in Bosz’s attacking approach, particularly when the team loses control of possession and leaves space for opponents to exploit.

Twente, meanwhile, secured their first home victory over PSV since September 2022, completing one of the most significant results of the early Eredivisie season.
