Florentino Perez talked about how he wants to build Real Madrid following his election victory and also confirmed Jose Mourinho as the new manager.
A majority of Real Madrid members voted for Florentino Perez in yesterday's presidential election, as the 79-year-old was re-elected as the head of Los Blancos.
The Merengues fraternity voted after a long two-decade hiatus; the last election was held in 2006, and since then, the incumbent president has been elected unopposed in the subsequent cycles.
Seeing the tumultuous situation at the club, with hints of dissent among the members, Florentino called for elections last month, and since then, a lot has happened at the club, as Enrique Riquelme officially joined the race.
Apparently, all those claims and promises coming from the challenger weren't enough to get the needed numbers in his favor yesterday, as Perez now looks to compensate for Los Blancos' sufferings over the past couple of seasons.
Following his election victory, Perez took the stage for the first time and issued a strong message ( h/t Real Madrid's official website) saying, "We have won the elections and will continue working to keep winning titles. We have won at all the polling stations and achieved the second-best result in the history of Real Madrid elections."
The Real Madrid president also shared the club's desires and aspirations for the upcoming years, saying, " We will continue working so that Real Madrid keeps winning titles, and we will fight until the end to achieve the sixteenth European Cup."
Most importantly, Perez named Jose Mourinho as the new manager during the victory speech, saying, "[We are] proud to have the best players in the world, proud to welcome back one of the best coaches in the world, a Madridista like José Mourinho."
As reported earlier, the announcement of the veteran manager as the new head coach of Los Merengues was put on hold only because of the recently concluded presidential election, and now it is only a matter of time until the Whites officially unveil Mourinho as their new manager.
The Portuguese manager has seemingly already started the player recruitment process with the club management, as Los Blancos have reportedly reached agreements with Denzel Dumfries and Ibrahima Konate to strengthen their defense.
On the other hand, according to recent reports, Mourinho has now handed in a transfer request for Premier League midfielder Mateus Fernandes to the club.
Adding to all this, Perez's 'mysterious' €150 million bid is yet to be revealed as Los Blancos gear up for one of their busiest summers in recent times.
