The Borussia Dortmund midfielder appears to be on the radar of new Real Madrid manager Jose Mourinho.
It is quite clear that Real Madrid are not done in this summer transfer window even though they have already made significant additions to the squad. Bernardo Silva has been brought in as a free agent but it looks like Jose Mourinho is still not completely satisfied with his options in the middle of the park.
There has been a lot of talk about the club going out and signing Enzo Fernandez from Chelsea, having already gotten Marc Cucurella from them just recently.
Chelsea are believed to be holding out for around £120 million. That is a significant figure, even for Real Madrid.
That being said, the club made an official announcement recently to confirm they had made an offer in the region of €150 million for Julian Alvarez. So, Chelsea could just point towards that.
That announcement might very possibly have been symbolic, just to show the fans that an attempt to sign a €150 million-rated player had been made. But then, it also sends a message to other clubs that Real Madrid have funds and there won't be any discounts on offer, that is for sure. So, probably not the shrewdest move on the part of the management.
Now, coming back to the matter at hand. The midfield still needs to be strengthened. And Fernandez is not the only one who seems to have impressed Mourinho.
According to Sky Sport, Mourinho is thrilled with Borussia Dortmund midfielder Felix Nmecha. The German international has caught his eye. Manchester United and Man City are also in the running to sign him.
Nmecha is currently away at the World Cup. That did not stop Real Madrid signing Cucurella though.
Nmecha had an excellent showing in Germany's opening game of the tournament against Curacao. He scored in the 7-1 win. Tougher tests lie ahead.
Of course, signing Nmecha is not going to be a simple task either. He signed an extension with Borussia Dortmund just recently.
There is believed to be a €70 million release clause in it. But it will only become active in 2027. So, if Real Madrid want to sign him now, they can expect to pay an even bigger figure.
Mateus Fernandes is another midfielder Real Madrid have been linked with in recent times. But it looks like he might be more likely to stay in England and join Manchester United after his team, West Ham United, were relegated.
