Manchester United could be set for a Crysencio Summerville transfer battle after the Netherlands international impressed on the World Cup stage.
Should Manchester United sign a left-winger this summer?
Crysencio Summerville has been linked with a move to Manchester United, alongside his West Ham United teammate Mateus Fernandes.
Roundtable has previously reported that United and West Ham have held club-to-club talks regarding the former Southampton midfielder, with fresh reports stating that personal terms have been agreed.
United may have to act quickly if they are to sign Fernandes this summer, after Matteo Morretto reported that Tottenham Hotspur remained interested in the Portuguese playmaker.
However, United will be focusing on more than just Fernandes. Michael Carrick's side will also be looking to finalise the Éderson deal from Atalanta, targeting a third central midfielder, and eyeing a left-winger.
Some fans thought that Marcus Rashford could have been United's new left-winger for next season, especially after Barcelona signed Anthony Gordon from Newcastle United, but it seems Rashford will still leave Old Trafford.
Rather than the £26 million in his loan deal with Hansi Flick's side, Rashford is expected to leave the club for £40 million, although that price is not available for Liverpool or Manchester City.
United set for Summerville transfer battle
Caught Offside have reported that United are "considering" a move for Summerville if Marcus Rashford leaves the club this summer, which seems like a matter of when and not if.
However, West Ham value the Netherlands international at £50 million, despite suffering relegation from the Premier League. This is said to be a "major obstacle" for a potential deal.
Napoli and AC Milan are monitoring a move for Summerville, likely watching his impressive performances for Ronald Koeman's Netherlands side at the World Cup.
Paris Saint-Germain are also interested and have reportedly already made contact with West Ham.
United could be forced to act quickly if they want assurance that they are leading the race for the West Ham duo.
Summerville will cause problems for United
While Summerville could be a good signing for Michael Carrick's side, especially while they are lacking a natural option on the left flank, he will only cause United problems for the time being.
Director of Football Jason Wilcox will be focusing on replacing Casemiro and signing at least one more central midfielder. And that must be his top priority.
While he is on World Cup duty, Summerville is unlikely to agree a move, and unfortunately for United, that will likely drive his price higher, with the Dutchman in such good form.
By the end of the competition, West Ham could be asking for closer to £60 million, which would mean United could pay the relegated side over £130 million for just two players.
And, yes, they are two good players. Very good players, with lots of potential. But that money could be better spent in other areas, especially when United are reportedly planning on selling Marcus Rashford for just £40 million.
