Old Trafford officials are monitoring Borussia Dortmund's Felix Nmecha as a potential £60m solution, battling Manchester City for the elite dribbler following his breakout performance on the world stage.

It feels like Manchester United and midfielders have been the main topic of this summer transfer window, which has sprung into life early with the World Cup, seeing United looking inevitable to bring in Éderson from Atalanta in a £35 million move.

United have taken quite a few blows in their pursuit of a second midfielder over the last few weeks, with Sandro Tonali getting interest from a plethora of Premier League clubs, including Tottenham Hotspur.

And West Ham are not making life easy for any pursuers of Matheus Fernandes, with the now Championship side reportedly asking for upwards of £100 million for the Portuguese man, with United trying to negotiate down to the £80 million mark.

Nottingham Forest's Elliot Anderson had a fine start to the World Cup with a commanding performance for England against Croatia. However, United do seem like they have missed the opportunity with their Manchester counterparts, City, closing in on his signature on a deal worth upwards of £120 million.

United remain interested in Felix Nmecha

According to Sky Germany, the Red Devils are 'lurking' around the possibilities of signing Borussia Dortmund midfielder Felix Nmecha, with them potentially looking at his first World Cup goal, when he was able to score and put in a good performance for Germany against Curaçao.

United aren't the only side that are interested in Nmecha, with Manchester City also wanting to sign the German midfielder after he was part of the City academy, where he made three appearances for the Cityzens and was able to win the Premier League 2 for the Under 21s team.

United will enjoy a midfielder who is used to playing in England, as INEOS have made it clear they like Premier League-proven players - think Matheus Cunha and Bryan Mbeumo last summer.

Nmecha won't come cheap, however, with him having a release clause of £69 million, which starts next year. But it is believed that Dortmund will be willing to go down to the £60 million region, which could open a move to Old Trafford.

Is Nmecha who United need?

Felix Nmecha does fall into a very large shortlist for United, with it feeling like every midfielder in Europe who has had a somewhat decent year has been linked to a move to United.

The Red Devils are clearly sending out a lot of feelers to see how interested players are in a move to United.

Looking at Nmecha's stats from last season in the Bundesliga, he displayed some of the best dribbling stats from any other midfielder in Germany. However, he has been in the bottom 50th percentile for defensive contributions - something that United may be turned away by, as they would like a hard-working, more defensive-minded midfielder.
