Manchester United look set for a midfield rebuild this summer, having lost Casemiro at the end of his contract.
Having now officially lost Casemiro, Manchester United will be looking at rebuilding their midfield this summer - an issue made even more prevalent due to the return to the Champions League next season.
Manuel Ugarte also looks set to leave Old Trafford, although he may have already been replaced, with reports stating that Éderson's transfer from Atalanta has been completed. He will likely officially join after the World Cup, given his late call-up to Carlo Ancelotti's side.
United are said to be eyeing at least two midfield signings this summer, with West Ham United's Mateus Fernandes and Nottingham Forest's Elliot Anderson heavily linked with a move to the club.
While Roundtable understands that United have held talks with West Ham United for Fernandes, it seems they are still focusing on a third midfield signing for later in the window.
United set for Liverpool transfer battle
Like Manchester United, Liverpool are also eyeing midfield additions this summer, having officially announced that Andoni Iraola would take over from Arne Slot.
Tutto Juve have reported that Liverpool and Manchester United - as well as Turkish side Galatasaray - have made enquiries for Juventus midfielder Khephren Thuram.
The report states that the two Premier League sides are an "option" for Thuram, who could cost close to £40 million - a similar fee to Éderson.
TeamTALK states that Thuram is on United's midfield list, but may not be very high up, with the club looking at Mateus Fernandes, Alex Scott and Sandro Tonali, too.
Liverpool may be ahead of United in the race for the Juventus midfielder, given that Tutto Juve's report also mentions they are selling Curtis Jones this summer.
United must prioritise Casemiro replacement
While finalising the Éderson transfer so early in the window is a good sign for United, he is not the profile of player they should be prioritising.
Casemiro's exit will leave a large hole at Old Trafford, especially after his nine goals last season. Éderson is more of a box-to-box midfielder than a defensive-minded player, as are Khephren Thuram and Mateus Fernandes.
Elliot Anderson seemed to be the favourite earlier this year, but all signs point towards him joining Manchester City after the World Cup this summer. Aurélien Tchouaméni was another option for United, but he looks set to stay with Real Madrid.
Before United turn their attentions to a Kobbie Mainoo backup or a new left-sided player, they must replace Casemiro.
