Sunderland transfer latest on deadline day as major updates on incomings drop regarding the likes of Igor Paixão, Malick Fofana, Geny Catamo and Kevin Danso, as well as for several outgoing Black Cats.
Sunderland are poised to add multiple signings on deadline day of the summer transfer window, but it remains to be seen which deals the Black Cats hierarchy will get over the line.
Within the window, Sunderland have left the majority of their business until the final stages, with two additions already made to Regis Le Bris’ squad this summer in the form of free agent defender Thomas Meunier and the £25.7m capture of left-back Dayann Methalie from Toulouse.
It is poised to be a rather busy deadline day on Wearside, with the Stadium of Light hierarchy eyeing multiple signings before the window slams shut at 11pm.
Here, SunderlandRoundtable provides those in red-and-white with the latest on every potential deadline day deal at Sunderland, covering both incomings and outgoings.
Sunderland Set To Sign Malick Fofana After Crystal Palace Saga
The Paixao development leaves Sunderland looking at other targets in the wide attacking areas, and it appears that the club will also miss out on another marquee target, Lyon winger Malick Fofana.
Sunderland’s interest in Fofana emerged recently, and it seemed that the Black Cats were poised to beat Premier League new boys Hull City and Serie A side Roma to his signature, but now the Belgian starlet could be joining a Premier League rival instead.
On deadline day, reports emerged that Sunderland were set to sign Fofana after agreeing a package with Lyon, only for Crystal Palace to hijack the move hours later and beat the Black Cats' financial offer.
The transfer has swung back and forth, and now the winger is set for a medical in France before confirming which side he will join, whether that be Sunderland or Palace.
As of the final hour of deadline day, Sunderland are set to finally complete the signing of Fofana, who has chosen the Black Cats over the Eagles after a dramatic deadline day fiasco.

As a result of Sunderland's failed move for Fofana, the Black Cats made a last-minute push to sign Benfica forward Dodi Lukebakio on deadline day.
Sunderland require a right-winger, and Belgian international Lukebakio could be poised to move to the Stadium of Light, with reporter Sacho Tavolieri revealing on X that the two clubs remain in discussions regarding the proposed transfer.
Unfortunately for Sunderland, the deal for Lukebakio of Benfica fell through with Marco Silva demanding that the club keeps the seasoned forward.
Geny Catamo still on Sunderland’s radar
Sporting winger Geny Catamo has been heavily linked with a move to Sunderland for several weeks within the summer transfer window, and it remains to be seen whether the Black Cats will finally secure his signature.
Reports in Portugal suggest that Sporting have rejected a €40m package offer from Sunderland for the Mozambique international, who is a pivotal part of boss Rui Borges’ squad.
With Sporting having already lost several of their standout players this summer, it appears unlikely that the Portuguese title-hopefuls will sanction Catamo’s exit at this stage, unless Sunderland return with an improved offer.
Kevin Danso joins Sunderland from Tottenham
Sunderland are set to secure the signing of Tottenham centre-back Kevin Danso on a season-long loan deal on deadline day, with an obligation to buy for around £25m.
Days earlier, Sunderland had a loan bid for Danso rejected by Spurs, but now that they have found his replacement in Tosin Adarabaiyo of Chelsea, this has unlocked the Austrian international’s imminent move to Wearside.
Within the deal, there is said to be an £22.5m obligation to buy for Sunderland to make the loan move permanent at the end of the season, dependent on whether Le Bris' side stay in the Premier League.

Sunderland had made a loan offer for Jack Grealish to Manchester City recently in the window, in what would have been a stunning signing for the Black Cats, but the Englishman is set to re-join Everton.
Grealish's preference was to return to the Toffees on loan rather than join the Stadium of Light outfit, with a view to making the move permanent next summer when he becomes a free agent upon the expiry of his City contract.
Igor Paixão Set To Stay At Marseille
Sunderland were linked with Marseille winger Igor Paixão last week amid the French giants’ ongoing financial troubles, with the Brazilian winger reportedly agreeing to personal terms for a move to the Black Cats.
However, reporter Sacha Tavolieri on X has outlined that Paixao will not sign with Sunderland this summer, with Marseille deciding to keep the winger rather than sell him due to their inability to register new players.
Latest news on Deadline Day Sunderland Outgoings
Sunderland will be less frantic on the outgoings front, but multiple fringe members of Regis Le Bris' squad are set to leave on deadline day.
Brian Brobbey was the recipient of interest from Serie A side Como, but Sunderland made clear that the number nine is not for sale at any price.
Winger Simon Adingra, who is currently injured after picking up a knock in pre-season, is set to join Eredivisie giants Ajax on a season-long loan deal, with the Dutch side reportedly holding a purchase option of near £14m in the deal.
Jocelin Ta Bi was poised for a loan move to Championship side Burnley, but the deal has fallen through on the Clarets' part.
Veteran midfielder Alan Browne is poised to return to Championship outfit Preston North End, where he played over 400 games for before joining Sunderland.
Elsewhere, Abdoullah Ba has been linked with an exit for Turkey after his move to League One Peterborough United fell through, and young striker Luis Hemir Semedo has left Sunderland for Ligue 2 side Clermont.
