Signing a new striker has to be near the top of the wish list for Celtic this summer. We all saw the difference an in-form goalscorer can make over the last few weeks of the season.

Daizen Maeda played a starring role in getting Celtic over the finish line in both the Premiership and Scottish Cup. Kelechi Iheanacho was immense as well with his contributions off the bench, scoring consistent winners as an impact substitute.

Hopefully, Celtic will take up the option to extend Iheanacho's contract by another year. Fitness remains a doubt but there is no longer any question about his ability to score goals in Scottish football. He averaged a goal every 82 minutes in domestic competitions this season.

As for Maeda, it does feel like his time at Psrkhead is coming to a close. If so, he had the best ending possible and might have solidified himself as a club legend over the past few weeks.

Now, if he wants to leave and have a different experience, after more than four years at Celtic, he should be given that opportunity. The club should not try to block an exit this summer.

As for the striker situation at Celtic, it looks like they have a former Real Madrid forward on their radar. But it might take a significant transfer fee to sign him.

According to TEAMtalk, Celtic are intensifying their search for a new striker this summer. Alvaro Rodriguez has emerged as a leading target.

Rodriguez was on the books at Real Madrid not too long ago. He continues to play at the La Liga level for Elche right now.

Rodriguez scored seven goals and provided five assists in 34 La Liga outings this season. That is a pretty good output playing for an Elche side that was trying to avoid relegation.

Also, he is the type of striker who rises to the occasion. He scored against both Real Madrid and Barcelona, while having an assist against Atletico Madrid.

Celtic could do with someone like that, especially if they are successful in making it to the Champions League.

He is also 21 years of age. So, the expectation is that he will get better with time. Let's see what the future holds.

But signing Rodriguez might not be easy. The same report goes on to state that it would take around €10-€15million to sign Rodriguez, with Real Madrid retaining a heavy sell-on clause.
