The Mexican international striker has admitted that he wants his "dream" move amid links with Celtic.
Signing a striker has to be at the top of Celtic's wishlist in the summer transfer window. Daizen Maeda has been amongst the goals in recent weeks but the expectation is that he will leave this summer. Kelechi Iheancho has also been crucial, scoring multiple winners over the past month after coming off the bench. But his fitness situation means that he almost never starts games.
Other than those two, Celtic do not have anybody who looks capable of scoring consistent goals. And both of their long-term futures are in doubt.
Also, Tomas Cvancara and Junior Adamu are expected to return to their parent clubs after disappointing loan spells. Despite having options to buy in both deals, it is hard to imagine Celtic will take either up.
Callum Osmand has just returned from a long-term injury and it remains to be seen how the youngster performs moving forward. He had looked like a handful in the few appearances he made earlier in the campaign before getting injured.
So, all things considered, Celtic must add to their ranks up front. And a Mexican international striker has emerged as an option for them.
Armando Gonzalez of Chivas is someone who has been linked with Celtic by reliable outlets in Mexico in the recent past. Now, the striker has himself admitted that he would like a move to Europe.
According to Sport Witness, he said in an interview with SPORT when asked whether he is thinking of a move to Europe, Gonzalez said: “Yes, I would try, because it’s a dream I have. But if it doesn’t happen, it’s no big deal; I’ll keep working.
“And if it does happen, I’ll be very grateful. It all depends on staying focused on the day-to-day.”
Gonzalez has been among the goals this season. He has scored 24 times in 34 appearances for Chivas in the current campaign.
Also, at 23 years of age, he is the profile that Celtic look for when making signings, with an eye on transfer profit in the future.
Of course, Celtic are not the only club to be linked with Gonzalez. West Ham United were said to be keeping an eye on him as well. But considering the fact that they are in a relegation struggle right now and might end up in the Championship next season, one has to give a slight edge to the Hoops in this transfer race.
Gonzalez has proven that he can score a ton of goals for Chivas. He is a full Mexican international as well. But is he someone capable of adjusting to European and Scottish football?
That is something we will have to find out if Celtic do end up signing him in the upcoming summer transfer window.
